You can depend on no one. Even if you think you are close to someone, they can always come around and bite you in the ass and leave you alone with yourself. The only thing you will have with you your entire life is yourself and only yourself. It's great to love and care, and I love doing it, but what the fuck does it amount to if no one gives one ounce to love and care back and merely leave you in the cold, by yourself? I guess you just have to learn to live with yourself, cuz if not, what is there to live for?
