1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?:
Hot Chocolate.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?:
Santa wraps them, and then they mysteriously turn up one day under the tree.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?:
White. I'm more fond of them, because they look like stars on the tree.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?:
Not EVER.
5. When do you put your decorations up?:
Around the second or third week of December. But now that Tory's moving away, I'm planning on putting up the tree and other decorations before the end of next week.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?:
My mother's Yorkshire pudding...and also her ambrosia.
7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?:
My father reserved the club floor penthouse suite for us at the
Grand Floridian hotel one Christmas, and we were really treated like royalty there. I remember having breakfast with Mary Poppins, and then afterwards, we went home briefly, because daddy wanted to "make sure that our pets were doing okay without us". When we walked in through the front door, the ENTIRE living room was covered with Christmas gifts - under the tree, in front of the fireplace, covering the sofa, and some sitting right in front of my bedroom door. It turned out that daddy left our hotel room in the middle of the night while everyone was sleeping and created the gift display just to surprise us in the morning. I can't remember a Christmas where I was more ecstatic.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?:
I first heard the truth when I was about 8 years old, but I didn't really allow myself to believe the truth until 10 years old. Santa would always leave a note behind, to thank me for leaving out the milk and cookies for him, and the carrots and celery for his reindeer (:3 OMG, I feel like SUCH a dorrrk now!), and as I read the letter, it finally dawned on me that Santa and my father had similar handwriting styles. Dunno why I didn't see it before. lol
9.Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?:
Within the past three years or so, our family agreed to open just ONE present on the Eve and leave the rest for the morning. I kinda like it that way.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?:
We have a variety of ornaments, some over 20 years old, and we throw on white christmas lights. Instead of a star topper, we have a Father Christmas topper that I love so very much. We don't do the whole garland/tinsel bit, only because we have cats that love to pull on shiny things that they have to reach for.
11. Snow, love it or hate it?:
Never experienced it, so don't really know. I can only assume I'd hate it, since I'm not used to it.
12. Can you ice skate?:
Horribly, but yes.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?:
My piano, complete with a large christmas bow tie, waiting patiently for me to discover it in our garage. XD
14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you?:
Spending time with my mother.
15. What is your favorite holiday dessert?:
Christmas cake.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?:
Enjoying hors d'oeuvres at midnight on Christmas eve, watching Rudolph or something with my family.
17. What tops your tree?:
Father Christmas, dressed in red and gold robes, holding a wreath.
18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving?:
Both.
19. What is your favorite Christmas song?:
"O Holy Night" because my father loved singing that song, and "Winter Wonderland" because it really brings back memories of my holiday trips to DisneyLand and Disney World with my family.
20. Thoughts on candy canes?:
Fun to hang on trees, fun to suck on, fun to break off the curvy part of it, and suck on the stick until it forms a sharp point.
21. Favorite Christmas movie?:
A Christmas Story and Jingle All The Way.
22. What do you leave for Santa?:
A bottle of whiskey.
23. What is your favorite Christmas gift?:
Still has to be my piano.
24. What is your best memory of Christmas?:
See question #7.
25. Depending on where you live, do you have a hot or cold Christmas?:
You're asking a Floridian. Maybe once in a blue moon, we'll have chilly weather, but for the most part, you'll find me wearing shorts and a t-shirt on Christmas morning.
26. Would you prefer to try the opposite weather at least just once?:
YES. Just once, I'd like to experience a white christmas: snowmen, snow angels, icy breath, rosy cheeks, numb noses, etc etc etc.
27. What do you prefer in a tree? Fake or real?:
I'd prefer real, but for right now, I'll have to settle for "realistic".
28. What is your favorite Carol?:
In The Deep Midwinter and What Child Is This?
29. What is your favorite Christmas Dinner?:
My mother makes a great prime rib dinner, complete with mashed potatoes, peas, ambrosia, yorkshire pudding, rolls, and eggnog.
30. Do you wear a Santa Hat at Christmas?:
Um, no.
31. Have you ever seen Santa delivering your gifts?:
No.
