Sounds like what they did to me at DHL in 2004. I would take the voluntary layoff and try to find a job somewhere else, if it were up to me. That's what I did... well, except the "try to find a job somewhere else" part. I just fucked around for months and screwed myself big time at the beginning of 2005 when my unemployment, severance pay, and retirement pay had all been spent. :(
