I was thinking about it a bit more today.

One of the ladies with the walking stick thing sat down on the floor (as I had done where the carriages meet).
I noticed she didn't bend one of her knees.
This started me thinking about a guy I know who has a steel rod in his leg and physically can not bend his leg, so, while disabled, he would have difficulty sitting.

I don't feel too bad about it. Judging by the body language of the people with the walking sticks (they weren't really walking sticks, but I don't know what they're called) there wasn't any glaring towards the people sitting, so they were probably cool with it.

Still, some people are just too shy to say anything.
