I know somebody who's like a character in every one of my favorite books.

I feel really out of place with the world these days.

I'm getting an SLR-type camera for my birthday, also in lieu of prom. What sort of camera do you recommend?

EDIT @ 5:18PM: I think I'm going to drop out of the play. I'm not really having fun, and I'm expendable anyway ( Read more... )

well what are you considering? digital or film slr? my film slr [the one i used for my most recent pics on lj] is an ancient Olympus OM-10. i LOVE it because it's metal so it's reassuringly solid in your hands without being too heavy. you know when it's in your bag without it dragging the arm off you so that's nice when you're at a party or whatever and afraid it'll get nicked. i use a 50mm olympus lens with that and it gets me through pretty much everything 'cause i like being up close to my subjects tho i do have a 70-135mm tamron zoom lens i use occasionaly. as for my film slr... that's a canon 20d. i love the camera body but the kit [18-55mm] lens i have on it at the moment is shit for what i do [gigs, portraits and low light photography]. i bought it 'cause it was cheap but when i have the money i'll upgrade to a 50mm f1.4, a specific lens to suit what i want to use it for ( ... )

Thanks for the comment, it was a HUGE help. I'm really considering the Canon 300d, but now I'm a little reluctant to go all out for an SLR, A) because they're very expensive, B) because I'm not all that technically skilled in photography yet. Would it make a difference if I didn't have the technical skills? I was also considering the Nikon Coolpix 8700 and Canon Powershot Pro1, which are SLR-like.
