Dave bites on the edge of his buttered toast as he hurtles towards the front door and tries to slip on his shoes, balancing precariously with his bookbag over his shoulder.
He’s already formulating excuses of why he was so late, ranging from ‘my cat got sick’ to ‘I got lost’, he winces. Shit, didn’t he use those two just last week?
“I’m leavinggggg!” he calls out to his mother, hopping onto his bike and tearing off, nearly running into many of his classmates as he skids onto campus in a record-breaking seven minutes and twenty-eight seconds later, throwing his bike into a bush and running up the stairs to homeroom. He slows to a stop, running a hand in his hair and patting down his slacks, checking to see if there’s any scuffs or dirt on his shoes.
He sneaks in from the back, just as the bell rings and he slips into his seat, ignoring Az and Puck’s grins.
“Class, we have a new student that is here from…” the teacher holds up a card, squinting at the katakana. “Oh…hii oh?”
“Ohio.” The kid says, “I…think I messed that up.” He smiles, “I’m Blaine Anderson, and I’ll be joining H-5 class with you all.”
Dave looks up, finally, and struggles not to swoon with the rest of the girls.
