Wikipedia отвечает на запрос об одностороннем подходе к освещению исторических событий

Здравствуйте, Vladimir!

Dear Sue!
It was a pleasure for to me get a letter from Wikipedia for my very small donation.
I hope Wikipedia is providing an exemple of independant global knowledge library builded with participation of many its authors around the world.
Its wonderful.
But a few days ago I have realised the fact (honestly - not the fresh one, several years old, but for me - a new) that Wikipedia use political censore and some Wikipedia`s materials has been deleted from the site and the only reason for it could be named as "propaganda" or "historical censore" or "information unwanted by somebody (here - by Wikipedia Foundation)".
Expecting that the true independent information library should have strong criterias for sorting, storing and deleting articles and understanding at the same time that the global resource as Wikipedia is very powerful in what is called "mass-media",
I would like to make it clear for myself why the russian version of Wiki has deleted article about Great Depression in United States in 1930`s.
It was shocking for me to read in several russian sources that there are no other reasons but only the politically based censore for Wiki to delete this material. The matter of this shock in not that something was deleted - I do understand that in need of supporting the quality of articles Wikipedia and the society should keep an eye on it; but the matter of the shock was understanding that Wikipedia could be ruled by somebody`s will to obey somebody`s angle of reviewing the world`s history.
There could always be different points of view into historical facts as well as there could be different articles reflecting this different angles, but the article deleted by some unclear reasons is an explosion of the consept of independency of Wikipedia, that`s why I am writing you this letter. For me it was like to meet your lover in somebody`s bed or like get to know that your favorite public person (actor, sportsman, writer) is a serial maniac.
Please let me know the reasons of this fact or please provide me a link where I could read about this reasons.
Thank you, in hope to keep the faith,
Vladimir

Michael Beattie, Mar 10 01:01 pm (PDT):
Hi Vladimir,
On behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation and the tens of thousands of editors who edit Wikipedia and its sister sites, thank you for your kind words -- we're incredibly appreciative of your support!

Wikipedia is a global project managed by tens of thousands of volunteers from around the world. Many people do not know this, but the Wikimedia Foundation does not control or edit the content of Wikipedia. There is no central editorial board; all edits are made by individual members of the Wikipedia community. Volunteers who edit and contribute to our projects appreciate hearing viewpoints about content, and value input from readers that can help improve the quality of information. If you have specific corrections or facts to offer, volunteers require citations or facts from quality sources to review and improve the information.
Volunteers also value broader input and criticisms about articles or content in general on Wikipedia. Wikipedia volunteers are strongly focused on the editorial values of non-censorship, neutrality, verifiability, and what we term 'no original research.' Volunteers come from virtually all walks of life and reflect a vast number of viewpoints. All volunteers invested in the quality of Wikipedia are working collectively to build balanced, neutral articles that reflect a variety of perspectives on often complex, high-profile topics. Content and information can change quickly to reflect world events and new facts. You can contribute to this process as well by editing the articles directly or by participating in an article's talk or discussion page.
For more information about participating directly in Wikipedia, or for more information about how Wikipedia works, please visit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Contents. For any further Wikipedia-specific questions, please contact info@wikimedia.org, an email address answered by longtime project editors.
Thanks again for contributing your views and please feel free to contact the info team with any further Wikipedia-related questions.
Sincerely,
Michael Beattie
