i love stuff like this. my mom's been making her own hand creme, shampoo, creme rinse, and so on, for about 35 years now, and it's awesome. i need to get into that next.
Before I had such a stuffed-full schedule, I used to make soap, bath salts, candles, and herbal remedies (studied herbal medicine for YEARS). It's a shame I don't even have a chance to bake bread or make cookies or candy anymore. I make some rockin' pralines. :) Ah, the days before having kids. *sigh* Guess I have this to look forward to in my old age at least. :)
You know, when I moved up north I made them for several functions where I was supposed to bring something, and at almost all of them, nobody ate a SINGLE ONE! At one, someone ate a piece of one to be polite but then told me they don't care for pecans at all. I haven't found anyone up north who does. I WAS SO BUMMED OUT! My family was pretty happy that they got to eat batches of pralines that others rejected, though. :) Silver linings and all, life's full of them, eh? :D
LOL! It sounds so easy to make, too, doesn't it? And real vanilla extract costs just an EXTORTIONATE amount at the grocery. I'll definitely have to try this.
There are links at the bottom of the pages in each link as well. I'm going to try to make the home-made brown and serve rolls. She tells you how to make them to keep in the freezer and use as you need them. I love fresh baked bread stuff. I'll have to give it a shot.
