Title: Memory Keeping
Rating: Kid-friendly, I suppose
Summary: A Just King slowly writes names on parchment one quiet night, and the Memory Garden is born.
Author's Note: I was trying to go for a detached sort of style for this piece. Oh, and response to Weekly Challenge #5: Memory at justkingedmund. Super late, I know, but I only just saw this prompt and was ( Read more... )

Oh, beautiful! I love the idea of a memory garden and how Peter took responsibility so Edmund wouldn't be embarrassed and how it didn't ever see Winter. And man, it was sad to read about the Telmarines destroyed the Memory Garden (I'm pretending that Caspian X found and repaired it). Just beautifully done!

Also, for your information, the link at the justkingedmund site doesn't work, I had to go the long way round to find this.

Oooh, gotta fix that. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm so glad you liked it; I was extremely tempted to write one last sketch - with the Four and Caspian - but I felt that that would be pushing it, and I think I like where it ends, anyway. I felt horrible myself, writing about the Telmarines - but I always knew that was where it had to end, and I wanted to show that despite its being in ruins, it wasn't really destroyed at all. I've seen the Greek ruins in Sicily, and I think they're some of the most beautiful things I've ever had the chance to see in my life.

Thanks for your comments! :) I think I'll put this story up on ffnet now, under Violin Ghost.

You picked a good place to end it, definitely. And I liked that it still had meaning, even after its destruction. I too have had the pleasure of seeing ancient ruins in Italy and England, so I totally understand how magnificent they can be (classic major ftw).

Oh, this is so lovely. I especially like the bit with the Calormene. And this:

...Peter continues calmly, with that sparing grace so peculiar to the High King...

But really, it's all so nice. :)

Oh gosh, super late reply. I'm so sorry. :|

Aww, thanks! I'm so sorry I haven't been reading your works - believe me, I'm itching - itching - to read your latest ones. But I've just got so much to do. :(

Thank you again. :)

I'm sort of in shock. I didn't realize it was from their first time and... and the ending just caught me off-guard (that and I was listening to sad mood music as I read this) and I'm kind of tearing up. Beautifully done.

Oh, do you really think so? Thank you so much. I didn't throw myself into this piece as I usually do - I took time to think about how I wanted to do it, and wrote the separate pieces very carefully, trying to go for a certain style, and I hope it shows. :)

And I kind of teared up myself, writing that ending. :)

This is just beautiful! Just the sort of Narnia story I always want to read. I loved all the little details, like the little dryad that's as small as a sapling and the little bunny leaving his carrot. Your writing here is so lyrical and poignant, and I could see the visuals perfectly. Just wonderful! Thanks for sharing. :)
