[ if it's the only way to right things, he'll do it. there's nothing but darkness left for him, anyway. what can he do? he's tried to fight it, and sometimes he won, and sometimes he lost. This was the biggest loss. His loss of will, mind, heart--it all crashed down, he realized just how lonely he was when the veneer cracked and shattered. it was hard enough for him to look upon his own reflection, but to reach past it and realize exactly what he was feeling--it was like realizing he was a monster, all over again.

he let the darkness take him. and he knows it's too late for second chances as it starts to consume, drink him dry as he sits on the edge of a hill, overseeing the fields below, wind blowing a strong breeze. nothing can be seen out of the ordinary--not until his eyes can be seen, slowly darkening, losing their colour and vibrancy.

it's best to do it like this. It'll take a long time, but he didn't much care. the beach was nearby. the waves still sound the same. ]

[Sora had been searching for Riku for a good long while - all day, in fact. He hadn't really started to worry, though, until he had checked all of the usual places (twice), without being able to find his friend. Sora had to admit that he was getting kind of worried. Where could he have been hiding for so long? And why?

Which is what brought the Keyblade Master here, to this hill near the ocean. It was so dark. If he hadn't known any better (and he did), he would have said that it was darker than usual. Something was wrong...and right now, he really just wished he knew where his friend was.]

Riku?! Where are you?!

[He's not expecting a response...but he's willing to try anything, at this point.]

[ if there's one thing he can't ignore, it's Sora. not any more, not again. his hands grasp onto the long grass that brushes across his skin as he calls out for him. ]

Over here.

[ his voice is distant, hoarse and lost, almost two-layered. Riku knows that Sora shouldn't see this, but he also knows Sora wouldn't stop looking for him until he found him. That was just Sora's way. and this was Riku's. he wouldn't stop giving until there was nothing left. ]

Huh?

[The voice caught him by surprise, both by the simple fact that it was there and the fact that, for an instant, he wasn't sure whether or not it was really Riku. But the uncertainty didn't last long and, after a few seconds of frantically looking around, he saw a shape in the grass.

If he had run up the hill any faster, he might have melted his shoes.]

Riku! I've been looking all over-

[And then, for the first time, he gets a good look at his friend. That darkness...what was...]

...Riku?

[Slowly he kneels down, not tearing his eyes away for an instant, his shock at the sight plain to see.]

[curepotion]

It's okay. It's still me.

[ he admits quietly, though the way his eyes are dimming fast don't seem to support that theory. at the very most, he'll be him for an hour or so, but not long enough. he gave in, and now it's too far gone to reverse--there's no coming back for Riku, and he knows it. he leans forward a little, as if he was going to stand, before he winces and stays sitting. ]

Sit by me?

[unlockingsmiles]

[Riku doesn't even have to ask; Sora is already sitting, though he's still facing his friend.]

Riku, what happened?

[His tone is urgent. Something happened to his best friend, and somehow, some way, he needs to fix it NOW. There are no other options.]

[curepotion]

I need to do this. [ his tone is firm and unwavering, the breeze playing through their hair like it's a regular day, seasalt carried in the wind. ]

I can't be this any more. I'm too dangerous.

What's gotten into you?! Whatever you're doing, stop. I don't know what's going on, but if something's wrong, we can fix it.

[Of course they could fix this. They had to. He had found Riku, and brought him home, and thought that everything was going to be okay again...

He couldn't let this happen. He wouldn't.]

[curepotion]

Sora. [ his voice has no sharp edge; it's just tired, pained. ] I can't stop it. And no one can fix this. Not me, not King Mickey, not even you.

That's not true! Between the two of us, we can do anything. It's always been that way.

[And it's always GOING to be that way. It doesn't matter how tightly the darkness is holding onto Riku, they're going to make this stop and leave this spot and forget that this ever happened because they have to.]

Come on - let's just go home.

/FUCK YEAH

[ he opens his mouth to speak, but there's a surge of darkness and his hand flies to his chest, grasping the cloth above his heart in a gasp of pain. he ends up falling backwards, his back cushioned by grass, eyes shifting skyward to the clouds rolling by. his voice is strained. ]

Sora, get it together. I'm not coming home.
