J & I went to DC for the weekend to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Got a bitchin' deal at the Grand Hyatt via Priceline. They practically give away DC hotels on the weekend.  Got there late, though, because the cat chose the moment we were leaving to vanish without a trace & we couldn't leave in good conscience until we knew she was

Dune is awesome.
Frank Herbert was an ecologist. I find that kinda cool.

Also....how fvcking cool is this:

I read it for the first time as a freshman in college and it just about blew the top of my head off. So. Cool. and it tuned me in to a level of understanding of the way human societies (and humans in them) function. It was like having a master magician show you how the tricks are done. (the little exposure I have had to Noam Chomsky's writing has done the same).

It is worth reading through the entire original series. The newer books are OK but don't have Frank's intense level of social commentary and understanding. They are less deep.
