Words: 496

Warnings: None. But, man, this was insanely hard to keep short!

Lily Luna Potter was a lively girl. Like her namesake, she excelled in Charms, though not in Potions. Just like her father, she didn’t have the patience for it. Sighing, Lily let her feet dangle from the tree she was sitting in, one of her favourites here at school. Hogwarts had some excellent trees, especially the ones by the water. The view could literally steal her breath away at sunset.

Right now, though, it was dull and colourless. She had a free period at the moment and she had wanted to spend it alone, to consider how she was going to pass her Potions O.W.L. at the end of the year. She was at peace this high up in the sky, another thing she had inherited from her father. It was calming up here, mulling over her future and where she wanted to go with it.

“There you are!” She narrowed her eyes down at the person interrupting her peace. She was too high up to tell, but it had to be one of her cousins. “Get down here, Lily - I’ve got a surprise for you!”

She glared but climbed down anyway. When her feet were firmly planted on the ground again, she brushed off her school robes and straightened her Gryffindor tie. “All right, what’s all this about?” She placed her hands on her hips, one eyebrow raised in question.

Before she could blink or catch a glimpse of the title, a book was thrust into her face, its pages open to reveal a Potion. She scowled at it, willing the words to go away. “That’s Polyjuice, Fred,” she pointed out, “what are you trying to do?”

He flapped a hand dismissively. “Never mind that. It took a lot of work to get my hands on this, you’ve got to help me out.”

“You - You want me to brew this with you?!” she stuttered out, eyes wide. “Have you lost your marbles? Gone completely barmy? No, Fred, absolutely not.” She paused, grimacing at how much she sounded like Aunt Hermione.

“Look, just … I don’t know. Think of it as extra Potions practice!” tried Fred, hopeful.

She scanned the ingredients, curious, but replied with a sharp, “Why not ask Al? You know how good he is at Potions.”

Fred made a sour face. “Yeah, right. And get lectured? Again? Come on, Lil. You’re smart and you’re not a buzz kill. Help me out?” She couldn’t really refuse when he put it like that. “And I hear Uncle Harry’s mum was really good at Potions! Maybe you inherited her genes.”

She knew that was far from the truth, but she gave up and agreed. “So, when do we start?”

As Fred rambled happily, she rolled her eyes and flopped down on the grass. There was only one thought on her mind: Sometimes I feel like my name isn’t worth all this trouble, but damn if I’ll fail when my grandmother’s reputation is on the line.
