Long!fic Wae you no possible?
Can You Meet Me Halfway?
“Here.”
Jinki looked up at the bottle in surprise. Jonghyun shook his hand again, pushing it towards his face. Sighing, the older man took the bottle and opened it with a flick of his wrist. The younger man walked around and sat down on the other side of the table with a sigh, opening his own bottle. They sat quietly for a minute, sipping the soju until Jonghyun finally set his bottle down with a hard clink.
“I was jealous for a while,” he announced.
Jinki looked up at him quietly. The younger man licked his lips nervously before meeting the older’s man gaze.
“I was jealous of how easily they accepted you being in a relationship. I was jealous that they even helped you hide. I got thrown to the media wolves like that,” he snapped his fingers for emphasis.
“But then, when I saw her eyes and realized that she didn’t love you like you loved her, I felt like an ass,” Jonghyun looked away, biting his lips.
“I fought with you those times when you wanted to go see her because I wanted to keep you from the end. I didn’t want you to repeat my mistakes. I was the stupidest fuck ever. I begged and cried for her not to leave me, and you know what she said to me? ‘You’re cute Jonghyun, but in SHINee, the only guy really worth dating is Jinki.’ I hated you and I hated her for that,” he whispered, smacking his lips together.
“She’s wrong then on both counts,” Jinki finally replied with a tired chuckle.
Jonghyun looked up at him in surprise.
“The only guy in SHINee that would be worth dating is Kibum and we both know there isn’t a single bitch in this industry worth our resident umma.”
Jonghyun chuckled and nodded back, raising his bottle in salute as Jinki replied in kind.
“I wanted to kick your ass in the beginning. I nearly did until Minho interfered. Good thing too, had Kibum or Taemin seen that, all hell would’ve broken loose.”
They sat in silence again, occupied with their own thoughts and bottle.
“I didn’t love her,” Jinki finally confessed. “I wanted her, but I didn’t love her. You loved her. I just used her as much as she used me.”
Jonghyun stared at him in surprise, making him chuckle.
“Don’t look at me like that, Jonghyun-ah. I’m not Umma’s favorite idol Onew right now. She needed connections and I needed to be needed-wanted,” he finished quietly, bringing the bottle back to his lips.
Before he could take a sip though, Jonghyun had pulled his hand away.
“Don’t lie to me, hyung. I know your face and I know what I saw that day.”
Jinki gave him a brittle smile.
“Then what do you want me to say?”
“That we’re both fuckers for letting her destroy us.”
Jinki looked at Jonghyun and then chuckled fondly.
“We are, aren’t we?”
“I’m sorry.”
“Me too.”
“Brothers?”
“Brothers.”

(A/N): I don't even know where this come from. But like any other Jongyu fan, seeing the dead space between them is disheartening. We all hope whatever caused it will be mended, regardless of whatever it was.
My version here points to the rumor that it might've been a girl. I'm not saying that I believe this was the reason, but I could easily imagine it, especially since both have since reached the age to date. Idols having relationships is a sticky situation in general, whether you're for it or against it. But one surety is that relationships in general aren't easy and getting into relationships for the wrong reasons always leads to heartbreak. Sadly, I think this is one of the most realistic and true-to-character versions of both young men that I've ever written.
