He leaned back at the table and smiled while looking at his notepad. He was proud of the song he had just written. It may just be one of the best pieces he had written in awhile. The way lyrics flowed and the melody he had in his head, he could just tell that the song would be a hit. Zac crossed his arms and sighed a sigh of relief. It was nice to finally get out of the apartment and go somewhere that he could hear himself think. He loved his family but sometimes it was nice to just be alone.
His brother Taylor and sister in law Natalie had brought his nephew Ezra over for a visit, and Taylor had really begun to get on his nerves. He had been down his throat about almost everything and Ezra just wouldn’t stop screaming. Then again what did he expect from a two-year-old with the flue?
If Zac hadn’t gotten out, he knew he would have blown up and that’s the one thing he didn’t want. Zac shook his head, he hoped they didn’t take it the wrong way. Even if they did, Zac thought, at least one good thing came out of this, he had wrote a new song. One problem though, he had to come up with a name for it. Zac took a drink of his tea and looked out the window. He sat and watched the reflection of people in the coffee house and the people outside on the streets. He wondered to himself why so many people were out this late at night. Were they lost, looking for something in particular or were they just unhinged?
He began to beat on the table with his pen as if it were a drum set out of habit. He had been doing it since he was ten and no matter how hard he tried to stop he just couldn’t. It was like Taylor biting his nails when he was nervous, getting him to stop just wouldn’t happen. Suddenly Zac jumped. He felt a tap on his shoulder and ended up spilling his herbal tea all over his new shirt.
"Damnit.."
He turned around to find his brother Isaac standing behind him holding a cup of coffee. "Dude, what are you doing out so late?" Isaac questioned.
Zac grabbed some napkins and began to wipe off his shirt. "Why does it matter? Haven’t you ever just needed time to yourself?"
He turned back around motioning that Isaac sit down in the seat across from him. As Isaac sat down, he smiled. He then reached over and grabbed the notepad Zac had been writing on.
"Nice, I see you finally wrote a new song" He said still smiling as he began to read the words to himself.
"Interesting," his brother nodded his approval,"You already have the music written to it?"
"Yes," Zac replied nodding as well.
"Great that means we can get into the studio and lay the track down then," Isaac chirped.
"No man I...I dont think so,"Zac studderd,"the songs not really meant to be heard"
His brother gave him an confused look,"Okay?"
"Dont worry about it," Zac said as he snatched the notebook back from Isaac's hands.
Isaac thought for a moment,"Ooh no, not another girl man" he cried shaking his head.
"Yes" Zac scowled rolling his eyes,"What does it matter to you anyway?"
"You always do this Zac, your like a hopeless romantic. When are you going to grow up and start living in reality.Quit crushing on all these girls and trying to woe them with songs."
Zac began to pick up his guitar and gather his things as if he were going to leave,"I dont need this speech from you man"
Ike sighed and sat back crossing his arms and rolling his eyes "Fine tell me about this girl"
Zac smiled "Well she’s right behind you actually."
He laughed to himself as he glanced at her. He felt a bit silly for it, but there was something about this girl that attracted him to her, that inspired him. She had a way about her, and she was fairly easy on the eyes.
Ike started to turn around to see what Zac had been talking about."Oh yea?" Ike questioned.
Zac reached across the table to grab his arm "What do you think your doing?"
Zac’s sudden out burst caused people to stare. He chuckled and waved "uh sorry about that.”
He turned back to Isaac looking embarrassed. "Dude you need to calm down. I’ve never seen you so worked up in my life. Whats your deal?" his brother grew cautious.
"Don’t worry about it Ike, I'll get over it. I’ve had an extremely stressful day is all "
Isaac shook his head and Zac leaned back in the booth looking toward the girl in front of him. She was laughing and he thought her smile was gorgeous. Her laugh was contagious. No wonder why she gave his song inspiration. Ike waved his hands in front of his face and snapped his fingers.
"Come on man get over yourself. It’s obvious she’s not into you" Ike stated.
"Dude there’s something about her. I don’t know what but there’s something about her" Zac explained
Ike shook his head " You’ve seen her once, have you even taken the time out to talk to her?"
Zac started to speak but Isaacs cell began to ring,"Dude, your dilusional" he whispered before heading outside of the coffee house.
"This is Ike, speak to me"
"Ike did you find him?" Taylor asked sounding worried.
"Yea, he’s at this coffee house. He’s completely losing his mind Taylor. There’s some girl here that he can’t stop staring at. He wrote a song about her" he told his brother with a short laugh.
"Come on Ike give him a break, he’s not twelve years old anymore. So lets not treat him like he is"
"Oh Okay lets not treat him like he is. Right..that’s why you sent me to look for him. You just had to know why he stormed out of the apartment like he did. I knew he’d be fine but oh nooo." Isaac rambled on.
Zac looked out the window at his older brother. He picked up a napkin from the table and began twisting its ends. They always treat me like I’m a kid, he thought to himself. When are they going to see that i’m twenty and able to take care of myself? He shook his head and looked toward the girl he had been watching. She noticed and looked his way, she didn’t seem very happy. He couldn’t tell whether she was mad at the fact he was looking at her or if she was disturbed.
Zac smiled and winked while pointing at her "Hey, how’s it going?"
The look on her face was priceless. Every girl he'd ever flirted with had liked it. This girl just flipped him off.
"Oh yeah, she likes me" he thought.
The girl then got up to go throw her cup away. Zac thought since he had been trying to find a way to talk to her almost all night this would be the perfect opportunity. Zac then placed the napkin on the table and followed her.
He stood behind her waiting for her to turn around.
"This girls going to think im a freak walking up to her like this" he thought to himself,"What am i supposed to say? Hi im Zac Hanson, from the band Hanson, you may remember me from the 90's my brother and I looked like girls? Hell that would work on a fan but what if she wasnt a fan?" he started to trail off in thought.
Finally she turned around catching him off guard and he spoke "Hey girl, Long time no see, how ya been?" He gave her a hug like he knew her.
Zac felt creepy and nervous flying by the seam of his pants but hey if it got her attention it was all good.
The girl gave him an angry glare and looked at her friend still sitting at the table.
"Do I know you?" she asked looking puzzled.
Zac crossed his arms and stood there pausing for a second. He thought of where her accent might be from.
"Yea you know, we went to high school together in..." he paused again for a quick second "down in Georgia" he noded his head and smiled. That had to be it he thought.
"Nice try bud, back off" Adyn growled as she rolled her eyes and walked away.
Zac stood partly stunned by her reaction.
He quickly turned around to follow her "Okay so maybe I dont know you. You cant blame me for trying though right?"
She smirked at him and sat down smiling at her friend. Her friend smiled back "Awe Adyn, whos your friend? Hes kinda cute!" she teased.
"Yea Adyn, Im cute" Zac said with a big smile on his face and his hands in his pocket.
" I didnt know cute and creepy could ever be used in the same sentence" She replied sharply.
"ouch" zac thought to himself
Zac's smile quickly faded as the words crept out of her mouth, "Now that was harsh, come on. I know that was an pathetic attempt but do you gotta be that rude?" he asked her trying to save himself from looking like a fool. His face turned beat red from embarressment.
"Yea Adyn? Do you have to be that harsh?" Hillary asked putting in her two sense as usual while she stirred her latte.
Adyn gave her a quick, and cold stare.
Hillary shrugged her shoulders, "What? Seriously Adyn hes cute! Hes cute sorta like a little lost puppy dog!Do you really have to be so mean?"
Zac smirked, laughed and agreed, "Yea Adyn, im like a cute lost puppy dog. How could that ever be creepy?"
Adyn just smiled while looking out the window.
Zac took a seat next to Hillary and thought god if looks could kill id be dead right now.
