Notes: HAPPY NEW YEAR MINNA~ ♥
Technology (Masuda centric)
Massu's never been big on using technology. Heck, he doesn't even have an air conditioner at home or a colored television. Some say it's because he finds the antiquated tools of the olden days more enjoyable to use than the spiffy, shiny objects chucked out by manufacturers of the present. Some say that Massu is probably too slow to understand how technology works. It's probably a little bit of both, but in spite of his possible dislike for modern technology or his inability to operate them, he'll still pick up his cell phone and tap out a message to the members on their birthdays, wishing them a fecund year with many great opportunities to come. And even if Koyama says he missed his birthday by a day, or Tegoshi complains that Massu is slow to return calls and messages, the members all love him anyway. After all, it's the effort that counts and the smile that accompanies Massu's greeting is probably stronger than the electricity that powers all these spiffy objects anyway.

Someday for Somebody (Shige centric)
Shige recently found an interest in cooking and even though he wrote about it in Myojo, it was actually only half the story. The phrase "someday for somebody" always comes to mind when he thinks about his cooking. As of yet, he wasn't so sure why.
So instead of thinking about it and causing a migraine, he opt for treating his bandmates to some of his cooking. He needed guinea pigs anyway. As expected, Koyama was all thumbs and goofy grins. When Yamapi, Tegoshi and Masuda sauntered in after wasting time by the vending machines, they also flocked towards the delicious aroma emanating from the bentos Shige has laid out. Judging by Massu's reluctance to share, one could assume Shige's food tasted decent, if not good.
The last one to taste the food was Ryo, the only one Shige was actually worried about. Nishikido Ryo loved good food and if he approved, Shige's ego might just inflate a tad. When Ryo-chan settles down in the chair, grumpy from the torturous shinkansen ride, Shige anticipates the worse as he hands Nishikido his bento. The tension in the room was raised when Ryo only cocked his eyebrow to stare at Shige in wonder.
"It's passable. I could do better."
And when Nishikido-kun approved, Shige floated to heaven. It's with the members' encouragement that he continues to cook, improving and creating many of his own recipes. Much later, he hears that phrase again, but now he understands why. Like his mother, he wanted to supply a nutritious meal filled with love and dedication. It's because he's constantly wondering if he'd make something like this someday for somebody. Somebody special who would definitely cherish Shige's attempts at cooking, even if it didn't taste half as good as his mother's. With a smile, Shige watches his soba noodles crinkle in the wok.

Purposeful Antics (Koyama centric)
Everyone wonders if Koyama ever feels ashamed that he fails at reading kanji or recalling specific proverbs. Because he's a graduate at Meiji's literature department, most would assume that he knew languages front-to-back. Fans, friends and family wonder if Koyama ever feels embarrassed that he flaps his arms around, disregards grammatical mistakes, and talks to foreigners in incomprehensible broken English. The obaasans who lived on his street and watched him grow up would gab: He's an idol. He needs to behave more like one. However, while Koyama knows that he's a complete mess in his own native tongue and his coordination is lacking in some ways, he's perfectly okay with being labeled as the dork because no one is perfect. Koyama is a positive kind of a person and he likes to think that his goofy antics will bring some joy to passersby and his acquaintances.
He's honestly not as tongue-tied as he appears, but if it allows him to see Yamapi chuckle, Tegoshi tear up or Shige choke on a hamburger, he thinks that being purposefully stupid isn't bad.

Member-ai (Koyato)
Shige thinks it's absolutely absurd that Koyama makes him his sidekick in spreading member-ai. A plate of snacks in the dressing room for Massu to snack on, handmade by an enthusiastic Koyama and a reluctant Shige, promises of helping Tegoshi style his hair when they're busier than everyone else in the room and other forms of loving gestures to soothe the stress out of Nishikido and Yamashita.
Shige thinks it's even harder to believe that even when they're alone and watching Heroes on the television, Koyama pauses the show and pulls him to his feet, commanding him to change into a concert tee to prove his dedication to NEWS. But then when Koyama's eyes twinkle at the sight of Shige being supportive and he leans in to give Shige a peck on the forehead, Shige doesn't think member-ai is so bad. At least it leads to some KoyaShige-ai.

Ryo's Online Escapades (drabblet written for
vinyaromeniel ; to be continued)
As Ryo surfed itunes one day in the dressing room, he accidentally stumbled across a site with uploads of NEWS songs. Upon further inspection, he noticed that it was a NEWS fangirl's uploads and keysmashing. But then! There's a link directing him to a fanfiction community. Is that a fanfiction? About him. And Shige. AND WHAT IS THAT?? THE RATING IS NC-17!?
Ryo couldnt resist. He clicked into it. As he skimmed the passage's contents, he felt himself squirm. Did he always appear that violent on screen? Why's he shoving Shige against the wall...wait. What's he doing with Shige to begin with? Oh my god. Is THAT the impression fangirls get when he shoves things down Shige's throat? That he has other things in mind?
Yamapi chooses to walk in then, but Ryo couldn't tear his eyes away to even bother greeting him. Damn he sounded hot. Heck. Even Shige sounded hot.
Yamapi flapped his arms and sailed towards Ryo. "Ryo-chan what are you doing? Rehearsals are in ten minutes"
"Pi. Take a look at this".
Yamapi takes a look at the contents of the webpage and promptly knocks over a chair in his haste to look around the room.
"DUDE. I HAD NO IDEA YOU AND SHIGE WERE DOING THIS SHIT BEHIND OUR BACKS!"
"We're not. This is by a crazy fangirl. But I can't say it's a bad idea. Where's the closest closet?"
Later that day, when Yamapi shows that to Koyama, Koyama calls Shige and sends him the link. Shige thinks he ought to hire a psychologist for Ryo. Or at least distract him with Dr. Tegoshi while he makes a run for it.
