wow, this is such an amazing guide and makes perfect sense! I love that this reads like a scientific paper :) Thanks for introducing the concept of looking lines, and all the categories too. This is really ingenious and gave a lot of food for thought for someone who loves text on icons but finds using it really challenging.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment. I was quite nervous about posting this, because I had no idea whether this would make sense to anyone else. So I'm thrilled that it gave you something to think about! :)
Ah, this is so awesome. And has such a great analogy running through it. The comparison is perfect to be honest because that's exactly how I compartmentalize text... only I just didn't know it until you said it! In any case - I love the categories you've included and the way you've described them, especially text filling up the space, because that's an amazing explanation. Basically, I love this, and will be adding to memories to come back and reference all the time. I'm so excited for the next part as well!
That was a very interesting read. Something that I'll definitely have to think about some more. I never really noticed what you call looking lines but now that you pointed it out, I definitly can. I'm definitely going to play around with this. :)
Well, most of my favourite text icons happen to be made by you, so it was inevitable. Seriously, if there was a way you could explain how your mind comes up with those icons, I would be glued to my screen for days.
You're welcome - and thank you for the lovely comment. :)
This tutorial is wonderful. I honestly have never looked at text that way before. Since I started iconing relatively recently, I have avoided text like the plague(if at all possible) since I didn't know how to use it properly. I have started using it more, but I am not terribly deliberate in how I use it. I just kind of mess around with placement until it looks good (or you know, until it is legible with whatever background it is on). This guide actually helps make sense of text placement. *crosses fingers* Hopefully my next batch will be a little better (or you know, more deliberate).

(That last part though, getting all those fonts on banners? So much more work than I thought.)

(and asgfdkl I can't believe that you chose so many of my icons as examples!)
Thank you so much for doing this!
