Narcissus at the lily pond...

So I'm stuck with editing/proofreading/rewriting a paper which, while discussing a fascinating topic, bores me to tears with the author's evident cluelessness as to what writing an academic paper, or just writing, or just English for that matter, is all about.

So what did I do to distract myself from ? I read my old fics. And... ( Read more... )

I reread my own fic quite often. After all, I wrote it because I wanted to read it. And yes, I spot the typos and things, but I generally get caught back up in the story.

I don't know if that makes me an egotist. It might! :D

But I know the "can't get past the first page" problem all too well. It's why I started writing drabbles. I suggest them, to you, as a way of feeling like you're getting something finished. Because sometimes all you need to do is get that one image or thought out of your head and down into words.

Oh, and as for books, have you read "Sorcery and Cecilia" and the sequels by Patricia Wrede and Caroline Stevemeyer? You might like those.

You're a marvelous writer, and I've loved reading your fics. I hope we can both start writing again soon.

I reread mine every few years, usually when I'm uploading them to a new archive. I sand out the errors the best I can and, even though my oldest stories are unsalvageable, I still enjoy reading them. I'm my favorite author! You'll hit your groove again, I promise. I did and my well had been dry for years.

in way of a rambling sort of a reply.....after a lot of all sort of different *things* going on in my life, writing more or less deserted me last year. Or maybe it was the other way around. And yet I yearned after it. And my yearning and my fretting took me nowhere, frustration piling atop disconnect and failure time and again ( ... )

It's lyrical and emotionally touching, and you have a way of saying things that make them sing.

Yes, I feel the same way. :)
