For some they may be elitest and trendy, but when Mac sells to students they are not necessarily targeting the affluent. The student discount they provide is actually lower than what price they demand of retailers. Which I thought was cool. Mostly I got a mac for the tech help at Reed. Basically it all comes down to comfort, are you more comfortable with possible tech help or with the interface, it's up to you.

There was actually a... Dell?... ad awhile ago mocking the old snowglobe imac. There were elitist snickers from the mac community because they were pretty pitiful, much along the lines of those posters... Ads like that are generally only funny to the people who have already converted to whatever's being advertised.

I like macs because they make sense to me, mostly because I've used them all my life. They are definitely elitist, but they're good computers as well. Whether they're worth the extra money/exasperation with advertising personal is should be dependent on what makes you feel good.

Course, this is probably completely useless now, but whatever! So what did you decide?
