i wrote all these in my check book because i didn't bring a notebook to chicago.

chicago

i.
the punctuated city: each cough
tight with concrete, every ivy leaf pulled
quiet with sun between mortar.
beneath bridges, we burn. each bolt
shivering apart, phantom smoke
in to the eyes: approach skies: how birds
drop like rain from the highwire.

check out some e e cummings. i know he has tons of portrait poemz. also amy gerstler has a few, i think, but hers would be harder to find online.
