My Sopranos Theory:

Tony is not dead, he's just kind of miserable and will be for the rest of his life.  We don't know how long that is and neither does he and that's the whole point.  Ginger cats are adorable and everyone should get one.  MMMMMM ONION RINGS.

The only thing I'm disappointed about is that we didn't get to see the strippers making a big fuss over the kitty, cause you know that would have happened and it would have been funny.

My theory: We, the viewers, got whacked and for us, it's all over.

I still think Tony dies, tho, just because that's the only ending I could think of that validates the last few seasons.

And what the hell do we watch now? Big Love? Switch off the TV and go outside and play? (Actually I like Big Love when it's just the wives and/or the teens. I fast forward over the rest, and you can still follow the plot.)

People are so mad about the ending. It's really funny that they are. I'm on Team LikedtheSopranosEnding. I am making a t-shirt. Your theory/recap is the best I've read so far.

I fell in to the initial "WTF? Did my cable just crap out on me?" camp. But now I kinda love the ending. I don't think Tony got whacked -I think that these people are in an endless loop of daily unpleasantness, and we don't need to be privy to it anymore 'cause nothing's going to change. And Tony -if he lives and/or avoids jail- is going to end up like Uncle June, a former big player looking back on a life of living large and finding nothing to show for it. The look of dawning hope on June's face when Tony said,"You and my father ran Jersey" -was a look of complete bliss, and his little, "Did I?" was kinda heartbreaking. The joys of The Life are fleeting and the pain is endless.

It's a bleak picture, to say the least. But a satusfying non-ending.

Oh I know what you meant. And I'm really glad we got to spend that little time with Junior, it was absolutely heartbreaking. They don't seem to have pet therapy or even crafts at the state institution.

I know. And their idea of recreation was, "Here, why don't you sit and face this blank wall for a few hours?" Or days. Who knows. Jesus.

Hence the Don't Stop Believing song. I feel it meant he was going to live out the rest of his life the same as he had been, nothing was going to change. But most believe it will get better (like Tony), which gives us the power to push on. I basically think David Chase was saying that about Tony.

Good article: 'Sopranos' creator's last word: End speaks for itself

Wow, Alan Sepinwall is the bomb. And I would love to see a spinoff set in Newark in the 60s, maybe with a little evil Janet?
