It seems, from the book, that this list was made after the New York Times Book Review editor asked about 200 editors, writers, critics and other members of the literature world what the single best American novel published in the last 25 years was. I only read the Bluest Eye and threw the damn book against the wall because I couldn't stand her voice. It's about two small girls (one black, one white). EVERYTHING that could happen to the black girl does, she's raped, beaten, used, abused etc. all the while she's jealous of the white girl who gets everything. She puts white people up on a friggen platter and denigrates her own kind.

1. The narrative wasn't broken, there is no need to fix it,
2. She is in dire need of an editor.
And the evil person in me wonders if A Confederacy of Dunces would be on this list if the author hadn't committed suicide.
