I've never been to dresden, but in munich see the english garden, the pinakotheke (i like pinakothek der moderne best though theres also an alte and a neue), the hofbraeuhaus, which gets very busy friday and satuday evenings which makes it more or less good depending on your perspective, though they have an oom pah band at all times, the viktualienmarkt which is lush but expensive fresh food. And obviously visit all the places i lived. Depending how much time, starnberger see out on the s bahn line, and dachau kz are a day out each. I hope you are going to berlin too! Apart from anything else there is a technology (?) museum with robots playing football.

SWEET, that sounds awesome! I actually meant to post this in a community I'm not sure you're a member of, but forgot to change the journal I was posting in. Now I'm glad I forgot it this once!

We are absolutely, 100% visiting Berlin, but there's a toss up as to which other major city we'll be seeing, either Hamburg, Munich, or Dresden. Since they don't know the cities either, they want to know in advance what's there, so thanks for your advice! The Technikmuseum sounds pretty cool :D

P.S. "oompah" is so descriptive and I don't get why Germans have not adapted this into their language!

what community is it , and is it good? i dont have them on my default view because the questions are usually repetitive and inane. ummm.

i think the museum i went to was this one http://www.berlin.de/orte/museum/museum-fuer-kommunikation-berlin/index.en.php , i was not aware of the name, normally i go into places because im passnig them rather than through planning. i can't think about berlin and munich any more because ill get sad :(

Sorry! It wasn't my intent. But I'd already found the museum you were talking about, which really is called the Technikmuseum (so you were right the first time), and in the link you can read about the soccer game against robots.

The community was um_die_ecke and is good for asking all questions, no matter what they are :)

Hello, sorry, I don't mean to stalk. ;)
I followed you from linguaphiles and, seeing this post, would like to suggest Festung Königstein near Dresden.

I've been there once, and I think it is the most amazing castle ever. Just have a look at the pictures on that site... The thing is frigging gigantic! So, if you have the possibility to drive a bit to the outskirts of Dresden, this is very much worth it. :)

No problem :) It's a delight to find cool people who share your interests!

Thanks for the tip :) Unfortunately, we found that it'd be more convenient this year to do Berlin and Hamburg, but we're definitely going to do Dresden and Munich the next trip!

Hey, that's sweet of you! Thank you for the Tipps :D And yes, I'm very much into art since it's one of the subjects I'm studying, so I'll definitely check out the Pinakotheken when I go!

Thanks again! :D
