Ok, new venue, not everything went smoothly but I generally felt pretty positive about all the cosplay shinanigans come Monday evening and boy was there an amazing turnout of costumes.

Honest opinions from all you veterans on the cosplay events welcome.
Get em in before my thoughts are consumed by Expo (or maybe, shock horror, a computer game)

i think the only thing that i found negative has already been said 100000x and already is under reconsideration. building distances.

other than that, great location, great con.

I thought you did brilliantly.

Biggest improvement I can think of would be a new voice for Ame-chan >.>

Having the cosplayers outside kept things much more comfortable and calm. They had lots of space and there were no overheating problems. When people are too hot (fursuit or not), they get nervous and fidget and then they break their costumes and panic more. We're lucky it didn't rain, they would have been fine in the tent, but I can imagine some sadness from getting to the building in the wet.
The only down side to this is they're not so keen to line up when there's enough benches about, but that just means we'll have to stop being so polite.

I know there was some gopher trouble, but maybe it was just a case of not enough people at some times.

Photos of the winners along with the closing ceremony is aces.

WHAT!!!!!!!!!! You don't like Monica's delicate voice? :P

The Uni tell me they can put the tent at the end of the walkway instead of in the outback and probably cover the walkway for prevention of soggy cosplayer catastrophy.

I approve of this plan! Although the end of the walkway is actually a road...so I'm guessing in the car park across the road? Either way, keeping them away from the mud & covered from the (quite possible) rain = good plan! The marquee would have to be either the same size or larger though, as getting a queue of people in there alone would be mental... Also a megaphone/shouty person on hand from the start would be good, I'd already nearly lost my voice from the night before singing along to the AMV disco so I was useless - and getting Amy to shout would have been like asking a small fluffy bunny to do it...

All in all I must admit I didn't go to many of the cosplay events bar the masquerade & ball (which was lovely, venue problems aside), but I've heard nothing but good feedback :)

Okay LJ doesn't exactly want to sign me in, but if you can't tell from the Amy-mocking and overuse of brackets, tis Kat.

Yes - and that's why a little Kitten was helping.

That's because we were! But it was fun - in a ... weird, sadistic way. We're good like that.

Overall I was impressed with how it went. I'll start with the positives.

1) Having the waiting area outside prior to the masquarade was great as there was seating and it was cooler.

2) The layout was good so people were able to get relatively close to the parade.

3) It was nice to have our own area at the end of the parade with ample space, the screen and waiter service providing water. Thank you Mr Gopher!

The only negative was the unusual use of purple and pink lighting for the stage area. This did not make for good photos. I'm sure a few of the photographers are going to complain about that.

One of the best run masquarades in my opinion.
