[ Sup Prom! Today you’ll get an appearance from your derpy headmaster, Helios. He’s currently sitting in the library with his portal open. He looks immensely better than he has since his arrival and he’s still working out the kinks to this place. ] A very interesting place, Promenade. I have to admit the dream world, or a world based upon dreams is ( Read more... )

[Why not reply? He sees no reason not to.] Mythology refers to sets of traditional stories associated with particular groups of people, or beliefs and stories surrounding particular events or institutions.

Dimensions might refer to a measure of spatial extent, or I've heard it used to discuss the possibility of alternate universes, of which this may be one.

Geography is a science. The study of the land and its features, to state it very simply. Fairytales are more stories, often about magic and magical creatures, generally viewed as more fanciful than myths.

[ Helios notes the other man on his side of the PORTAL. A smile and a nod as he listens. ]

Would you mind telling if your world has any such mythologies or, ah, possibly fairytales--legends even. I'm quite curious how it pertains to all these other worlds out there you see. [ And he'll tap his chin with the writing utensil he used for his portal. ]

If it's not too much trouble that it.

It's no trouble.

We have many myths and legends. Folklore is not one of my specialties, but I am somewhat familiar with them. There are tales of gods and goddesses, of mythical beasts. There are stories, also, of a race known as the Ancients, who possessed great power and could "speak" to the earth.

Ancients. Fascinating. I don't think there's anything quite like that in my world. Ah, well, dryads are connected to the earth as are the varying gods and goddesses. Are these ancients a specific group of people or something otherworldly entirely? [ A pause. ]

Sometimes people just have a better heighten sense with their surroundings.

Sounds interesting enough.

Mythology: more true than people imagine.

Fairytales: more true than people imagine.

[ Just a smirk from him. ] Ah so you're a firm believer in that which cannot be explained but might exist.

[ Or does exist in his world. ] If you could meet one type of mythological creature which would it be? Or, ah, if you have actually met a type before how was your experience?

Oh, I don't believe that they might exist. I know.

[He smirks back.]

Ever heard of a kitsune?

Really? [ Huh same as his world hm? How interesting... ]

Oh but of course! Kitsunes are very popular in Japanese culture. Very smart, clever too. [ He might know a few kitsune families and some go to his school as well. ]

Mythology... Stories mortals now believe to be nothing more than fiction...

[That first was easy enough. The others take more time to think over...] Dimensions... seemed to be more science fiction, but now I come to doubt it... Fairytales, I'm certain, are the same as myths have become.

[ Mortals makes him pause. He's heard it used before by those gods of a higher plane. It's not uncommon at least then, well terminology, wise to be called mortals instead of human. ] You're not human then...

Some of us still believe they're something more. I'd like to think a good majority do, actually.

[She shakes her head.] Human in appearance, I suppose.

I'd like to hope they would... But fewer and fewer seem to anymore.

Then if you don't mind me asking...what are you exactly? You must be quite powerful to hold up the illusion of a human form.

[ Helios sighs his expression somber. ]

You're right about that. But people can be made to see, to change, especially when they see for themselves that not all things are so bad. But really it depends upon the person whether or not to believe or not to believe.

[ Jack grins a bit into the camera. He looks as though he is considering his words. ]

Mythology: Entirely possible.
Dimensions: Absolutely possible. Multiple ones, even. [ Knowing grin. ]

Let's see...Geography. Geography is the lay of the land. Not just on earth, everywhere.

And fairytales are stories, but they can hold root in truth, just as mythology can.

[ At least he didn't say it was all about aliens. He nods, satisfied with his answers. ]

[ Helios leans back in his chair considering, thinking about Jack's replies. ]

That's true fairytales and mythology are often the basis of things people cannot explain at the time or simply used for learning. [ Helios looks back into the video feed his own expression one of mild curiosity. ]

Have you been then? To, ah, different dimensions I mean?

Not exactly. Thankfully. [ Jack, too, leans into his chair, shifting to prop his feet on the desk in front of him. He has his PORTAL attached to something that allows it to be hands-free for him. ] Interesting word choices, though.

Mythology = demons
Dimensions = danger
Geography = varied
Fairytales = trouble

Is that what you meant? Or should I elaborate?

written folkloristic November 28 2011, 01:20:20 UTC
Elaboration is fine if you wish. I admit I'm curious about some of your answers.

Yes, I'm afraid I get that rather a lot. My home was very unfortunate, in that regard.

That is unfortunate... [ Though he's curious and wants to ask what happened but it's not his right to really do so. ]

Demons...they are rather popular in mythologies. Vampires and Werewolves as well. A shame what media like those movies and books have turned them into. N-Not that, that it's bad everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I can only imagine some people's thoughts on demons.

[ Most are scared and wary and Helios is fine with that. He used to be as well. ]
