[Apparently Christine has decided to continue the themes of civil disobedience... She's hauled a number of half-finished paintings out of Camelot, out onto one of the green lawns in Promenade city.

And then she's lit them on fire. She's holding her PORTAL up to record the experience faithfully, and as the canvases are eaten away she murmurs,]You ( Read more... )

[...you set fire to artwork.

what the hell is wrong with you.]

Please tell me you're not actually burning art.

My darling, Neku, I could tell you such a thing, but it would be a most blatant lie and would rather ruin the meaning of my exhibition, as it were.

I am burning these paintings, I began them in earnest and enthusiasm as the visions would not leave me after the water touched my skin and the wolflord touched my bed, but he is gone now and so his paintings will never be finished. Why then should I not express my frustrations as I wish to?

You're quite the harsh critic, I see.

[Yes, maybe Sephiroth is amused by your loony behavior, but his remark is perfectly deadpan.]

[She laughs at that. Generally, she ignored her father's advice. any piece he wasn't fully satisfied with he was eager to burn, but Christine found this to be wasteful.]

I suppose that I am, but there's no one with more right than I to set my own work aflame.

[The fact that she's an artist comes as no surprise to him. He's had few dealings with artists, but he is familiar with the eccentric artist stereotype.]

I wouldn't deny you that right. What about them offended you so?

[The daughter of an artist, it had been one of the few activities her father had been willing to engage in with her. Any other game or activity was spurned and left to her mother.]

They were inspired, you see. I visited a wolf on a riverbed and saw great visions of far off places. He is gone now, I cannot finish them, and even if I could they would have failed their purpose. They were gifts and they cannot now be received. Perhaps the ashes and energy will make their way beyond this pall of dreaming, I do not know.

You're probably just making things worse.

It could be made no worse than it already was, the wolflord is gone and my visions left unfinished. The greatest of tragedies, not to reach the end of a thread, so wasteful. Infuriating even!

[She smiles into the camera, her dazed expression belying her supposed anger.]

It can always be worse. And when it can't get worse, we'll be dead.

[ He just looks bored. A little bored and annoyed that he's stuck in a house. ]

There is ever more beyond death. It is a beginning, not an end.

An exhibition. A statement of dissatisfaction.

But the paintings? And what if they catch you? Aren't you scared?

Of course not fear is constant. It would be a shame to let it paralyze me from what I desire.
