[There's a quaint silence when the PORTAL buzzes in your hand, to note this is a message and a feed sent from the queen herself. She's sitting in the gardens, away from where Lior's body was found, and having tea with none other than everyone's favorite despised scientist. From beneath her mask you can see she's smiling, and Genero and she are talking about daily things while having tea and biscuits. There's laughter, and after a moment or so of this, you can finally hear it pick up on their conversation.]
Genero, would you be so kind as to pass along the sugar?
Of course, your Highness.
[She lifts one hand in front of the elegant dress she wears and hands him a plate of what looks like crumpets.]
And have a biscuit while you're at it, there is still much to discuss.
[He nods and waits for her to continue.]
What is on your mind, my lady?
Mostly about the newly awoken. How do they fare at this hour?
[There's a witty smile at her question, and he laughs a little.]
You haven't been keeping an eye on them, my Queen?
[She laughs in return.] I have, Genero. But you should know it is difficult to be royalty. I cannot simply waltz down the street and ask how things are. You know I've done so in the past and nothing has come of it.
[A pause at this as the scientist sips his tea and then speaks.]
Indeed. I will note that they are still following the same barbaric tune as when they awoke. Nothing pleases them.
The same? So you refer to them as being barbarians? [A small frown forms beneath the mask before setting back into a thin line of curiosity.]
Not at all- I'm more than certain they are capable of doing un-barbaric things. However, their attitude is much like a child's and cannot be swayed.
I see. [A second of silence and then she speaks again.] Genero, would you mind bringing me along on your next trip in the Unnatural to question these "barbarians?"
[Obviously this is not something she asks often or he hears from her, and it's quite apparent in his eyes. He sputters at this, tea spilling a bit and looking a surprised at her request. The Queen's smile is one that is friendly, gentle, as if she doesn't have a point to it other than to smile. After wiping his mouth with a napkin, he returns it.]
I wouldn't suggest it.
Do you not think me capable of handling what goes on in there?
[A shake of the head at this.] Far from it, your Highness. I wouldn't want you to sully your clean hands. A lady is not meant to take care of the duties not assigned to her, including the grime of the city.
[Valrune laughs at this, amused.] Ah, you're such a gentleman, Genero. What would the people ever do without you? I'm sure you treat them just as fairly.
[Another laugh and he nods at this statement.] Perhaps a bit more sternly and with emphasis, but yes.
[And now she leans in close, grinning at him.] So that's what you call your torture sessions, 'stern with emphasis'? I had no idea they meant quite the opposite.
[That's answered with Genero spitting out his tea with force, right onto the Queen's mask, and choking on a biscuit half in his mouth currently. The man fumbles for a good few seconds, looking like an idiot as he performs a Heimlich maneuver, and then settling down once the choking ends. He shakes his head and recomposes himself as she haphazardly wipes away the liquid on her face, much to her servant's horror. The smile she once had is now replaced by a stern line.]
I-I beg your pardon, your Highness, I don't believe I heard you correctly. Something about torture? Why would I ever do something-
Enough. [Her voice halts his own. She rises, obviously done with his games.] I grow tired of you dancing between the flames, scientist. When the both of us wished to rule the city with safety, we did not ask for loyalty to be brought through fear.
I can explain-
I've no interest in hearing it. Your reasoning is as black as your heart, should you so eagerly show people electrocutions of their own residents.
Guards.
[The man does a double-take, uncertain of what's going on, other than it's not good for him.] W-wait, what are you doing, your Highness?
I am simply giving you justice, Genero. [A simple bow towards him, indicating their conversation is finished, and she turns to the approaching guards.] Take him. Down to the low rooms, and await my jurisdiction from henceforth. Do not allow him to sway you or escape. There will be consequences if it occurs.
[A shriek, some struggling, some kicking and yelping, but the guards manage to grab a hold of Genero and yank him towards the castle, him protesting the whole way. When the doors close behind him, the Queen turns back to face the PORTAL and smiles slightly.]
I apologize for all he has done. Should you wish to speak with me more about this matter, I will, and gladly- however now is not the time. Wait for me, I will make it apparent when I will be available.
[She whirls, turning back towards the castle doors, and begins walking. End of feed.]
