Most amazing birthday ever!

I am so luck to have a wonderful husband like Justin. He planned an amazing birthday surprise for me. Actually, not just one surprise but 3 surprises.

Surprise #1 Justin drove me blindfolded to one of my absolute favorite places Zencha Tea Salon. I walked in and knew where I was by the smell alone. I removed the blindfold to see 4 of my friends sitting at a table. It turns out that Justin had arranged for us to participate in an authentic Chinese Tea Ceremony.  Before the ceremony, the owner of Zencha gave us a history of tea and the tea ceremonies of China and Japan as well as British high tea. It was very interesting and informative. Following his lecture was the tea ceremony. It was fun and beautiful and such an amazing experience. We sampled 3 different teas all very unique and delicious. During the ceremony each tea is sampled twice. First the aroma brew is an immature version of the tea. It is brewed from freshly opened tea leaves it is usually lighter in color and taste. The second tasting is usually bolder and more flavorful. The experience was amazing it took us 3 hours to take 6 tiny cups of tea.  It was fabulous and I highly recommend the experience if you ever get the chance.

Surprise #2 Justin worked for at least 6 hours making a cake for me yesterday. I wasn't allowed in the kitchen nor to even look into the kitchen until it was hidden in the bathroom. I was therefore surprised when he never presented it to me at Zencha, but figured we would eat it when we got home and that I would have lots of leftovers. When we walked into the house I was shocked to see it on the kitchen island.I was even more shocked when even more of my friends jumped out of the bathroom and closet. We at Justin's wonderful cakes which turned out to really be 3 cakes that were made to look like a tea cup and teabags. One of the cakes, the tea cup, was a lavender flavored layer cake with pastery cream between the layers. THe second cake, the saucer, was a rose flavored cake. The last cake (or cakes) were little chocolate  cakes shaped like tea bags complete with strings. They were all amazing. I just felt bad that out friends were waiting for nearly 2 hours because the tea ceremony ran more than double the quoted length.

Surprise#3 The final surprise was a story written for me  by Justin in the children"s book Justin is writing for me. It was so sweet and unexpected.

I am so lucky to have someone who would go to such lengths to make my birthday so special
