You know, sometimes people take a thing beautiful in its simplicity and make it needlessly complicated. Like practical jokes, for example. Now, while making people switch genders and hexing hair different colours is no mean feat, I for one find the old Muggle trick of shortsheeting your target's bed to be almost as effective ( Read more... )

Don't think it was for his own good, Cad.

Yes, it was partially for my own amusements as well. But mostly for his own good.

If I do it often enough, he may just develop a sense of humour.

Personally I think it'd just lead to him resenting you and killing you in your sleep.

Naaah. He's too fluffy for that. You should see him with the girls on our team. They're like the little sisters he never had.

Trust you to make something like short-sheeting someone's bed into a philosophical discussion, sweeting!

Well, because we can do magic people do make pranks far too complicated. Sometimes you've just got to keep things simple.

Yes, yes of course. And that principle doesn't just apply to pranking. Relationships, even. People would be so much happier if they kept THOSE simple as well.

So, sweeting, how have you been?

Yes, Cadwallader, I'm certain that Zacharias' best interests were your top priority when you short-sheeted his bed. We believe you, thousands wouldn't.

How are you?

I said they were my top priority. I didn't say they were my only priority.

Good, good. Yourself? You are coming to my birthday party, aren't you? I'll finally be able to purchase alcohol. Which I've been doing for a while, but now I'll be able to legally. Whoo!

Yes, and by saying "top priority" in such a fashion, I was pointing this out, dear.

Aaw, I like cheeky banter with Cad. He never takes things the wrong way or anything. Wish more blokes in this school were like that.

Not too bad. Nothing exciting going on, really. Apart from schoolwork and Quidditch I haven't really had time for any fun, alas.

Of course I'm coming. I think it'll make a welcome change from nights falling asleep into a History of Magic textbook...
