How do you make a link and bold and whatnot?

i dunno how to do links besides typing out the complete website, but for bolding, you use the side carrots "<>" things (hope it shows up) and put b in between for bold, u for underline, and i for italics. you put the code in before the word or words you want to emphasize. to end it, you do the same thing, only put a "/" in front of the letter.

hope that makes some sense. it's probably in the FAQs of livejournal.

if you're talking just in general, with html (which is what lj uses, mostly) then...
(without spaces)
< b > = bold
< u > = underline
< i > = italic

to make a link is
< a href = " www.blah.com " >

to bold a link would be
< b > < a href = " www.blah.com " > < / b >
