On the evening of September 4th, 1996, Percy Weasley stepped out of his flat to check on the electricity after the lights went out. In that moment, his life paused for over a year when he was transported to an interdimensional love hotel. On November 1, 2010 (local time), he stepped out of his bedroom at the hotel, intending to ask Hermione Granger to join him at the library, and found himself back in the hallway of his building in London, just as the lights came back on. Even though he hadn't done anything to help, he nodded, pleased, and went back into his flat. Life continued on as normal for Percy - work, occasionally going out with his co-workers, more work - for about a month and a half.

On October 16, 1996, Percy received an owl from Hogwarts after arriving home from work. Though he was confused, he opened it and immediately sort of wished he hadn't. It was from Professor Dumbledore, and it expressed sorrow that they had not seen eye-to-eye for the last year or so, but he was hoping Percy would find it in himself to listen. The letter went on to explain that a student at Hogwarts had recently been Imperiused and badly hurt by a cursed necklace, and that Dumbledore had very good reason to believe Lord Voldemort had been behind it. (Percy had winced even seeing the name written down, and almost tossed it, but he kept reading.) After that, the letter explained that Dumbledore believed that the Dark Lord's next move might be to infiltrate the Ministry, and that it was very, very important that they have someone trustworthy and reliable on the inside, just in case. Someone who couldn't be connected with the Order. Someone whose alliances were very publicly with the Ministry, and whose reputation and record were spotless.

If you won't do it for me, the letter ended, then do it for your sister.

Percy had thought of Ginny, even Ron (and, for some reason, Hermione Granger) in a world where You-Know-Who had taken over, and where he had had the opportunity to help, and hadn't. Finally, he wrote back, accepting a covert position in the Order of the Phoenix as an inside man at the Ministry. The best part was, he thought as he sent the owl back, no one - even in the Order - would suspect him.

He was never sure what had happened that night in September that had made things change, but from that point on, Percy was much more comfortable in his skin and with himself. (He also found himself much more interested in Quidditch, specifically Puddlemere United. Deciding that it was nice of him to be concerned with Oliver Wood's career, he checked the scores in the Prophet, but never went to a game.) He was less averse to going out with his co-workers and having a few drinks on the weekends, and more open to the occasional advances they might make. In specific, he never seemed to mind the attentions of Aisling Kelly, a bookish brunette who worked in the Department of International Magical Cooperation, or Jonathan Harris, a strapping young man employed in the Floo Network Authority. (His acceptance of Jonathan's come-ons surprised him as much as anyone.) One night, while out, one of his co-workers offered him a cigarette. Percy accepted, and after his initial coughing fit, discovered it wasn't as bad as he'd thought. From that point on, whenever he went out to drink (and only then; one had to have limits on these things), he could occasionally be found outside whatever pub they were in that night with a cigarette in his hand, discussing trade regulations or whatever legislation had crossed his desk that day between drags.

Things were quiet, and rather easy at first. Percy dutifully reported on anything interesting that was happening inside the Ministry (there wasn't much) and sent his letters with the Hogwarts owls that, like clockwork, arrived every Saturday at eleven in the morning. He would occasionally kick around the idea of resigning, simply because it was obvious (to him) that nothing was going to happen, that the Dark Lord may well be back but he wasn't going to try anything in the Ministry again. But he'd given his word, and he wasn't going to back out on it now.

In June of 1997, Dumbledore was killed by Severus Snape. The day after his death, Percy received a letter couriered by a harried-looking owl that took off as soon as he'd untied the letter from its leg. He soon found out the reason for the owl's hurry: the letter was brief but explosive.

If you wish to continue in your current position, please attend Albus Dumbledore's funeral in three days. Please drop this letter now.

He had barely enough time to comprehend the last sentence when the letter burst into flames. Luckily, his fingers were only slightly singed and the burn in the carpet was cleaned easily enough. Of course, he went to Dumbledore's funeral as part of the Ministry delegation. Aisling came as well, as Percy's guest, and they quietly held hands during the service. When Percy caught sight of Hermione Granger standing with Ron later on, after the funeral, he felt an odd stab of guilt for being there with another woman, which he quickly dismissed. How absurd.

Things started going very rapidly downhill after that. Rufus Scrimgeour was Minister for Magic for another two months before he vanished and was replaced with Pius Thicknesse. Though Percy, better than anyone, recognized the signs of an Imperiused superior, he thought of Ginny, of Aisling, of the good work he was doing within the Ministry, and he kept his mouth shut and the Order informed. He had no idea who his new contact in the Order was, only that he was told to send owls whenever he had information from the Diagon Alley post office to an address in Dorset until they figured out something else. It turned out that separating from his family was the best thing he could have done for himself: though he was still considered to be a blood traitor, he was thought to be a lesser degree of one. It made spying infinitely easier, as did the fact that whoever was controlling Thicknesse apparently didn't realize what documents the Minister's assistant should and should not have access to.

Shortly before the school year began, Percy received an owl bearing a short but intriguing letter: it simply asked him to come to the Hog's Head the following Tuesday at eight-thirty to discuss his siblings (mentioned by name), and was signed 'A.D.' Though he knew full well it could be a trap, the mentions of Ron and Ginny by name scared him, and the signature brought up confused, scrambled worries that Dumbledore was alive and in hiding. So he went, and he met Aberforth Dumbledore. Aberforth knew Percy was a member of the Order, but he wasn't sure in what capacity, and he knew he was estranged from his family. However, Aberforth also knew what was going on at Hogwarts, and could keep Percy informed on how Ginny and Ron were doing. Suspicious, Percy asked what Dumbledore wanted from him. Aberforth merely replied that he wanted Percy to come when he was needed most, and refused to elaborate further. Percy agreed.

In October of 1997, Percy developed a Very Bad Habit. He'd been very strict about only smoking when he drank, but after the Ministry was taken over by Death Eaters, he discovered something very handy about smoking: cigarette breaks. Luckily, since he'd been seen smoking by his friends in pubs before, it didn't seem suspicious that he would start up during working hours as well. For two weeks, he watched when the others in his department would take their smoke breaks, and saw where around the building they would take them, and worked out a new arrangement with his contact in the Order. When he had information, he would take a smoke break at precisely 2:47 in the afternoon on Tuesday, and go to a corner that wasn't commonly used by other Ministry employees. At some point between 2:52 and 2:57, an Order member would pass by, identified by the small 'O' they would form with their thumb and index finger, and Percy would make a small 'come here' gesture with his cigarette that was indistinguishable from flicking away ash. The Order member would ask for a cigarette, and Percy would offer them one of his. There would be an exchange of cigarettes and thanks, and the Order member would go on their way with the hidden information. Percy often felt like he lived in a spy novel, that someone would have to catch on that someone always stopped by at a certain point in his Tuesday smoke break and always asked for a cigarette from him and that he would be tortured and killed.

During this time, Percy was also attempting to balance a relationship with Aisling, the brunette from International Magical Cooperation. She was sweet, very book smart but occasionally lacking in common sense, and she had a laugh like silver bells. They ate lunch in the commissary together and held hands under the table. He would take her to dinner or for a walk in the park at night, and she was his one respite of normality in a whole lot of crazy. Sometimes he thought he might love her, and he felt an odd combination of happiness and guilt: happiness that he was with someone who made him so happy, but that niggling guilty feeling that she wasn't the right someone.

By late November of 1997, Quidditch was canceled, and Percy wasn't sure why he was as devastated as he was.

In January of 1998, Percy dumped Aisling. He told her that he had to focus on his career right now and that she was nothing more than a distraction. She was inconsolable, but Percy kept his shoulders high and tight and never looked back. The truth was, of course, not so simple. Things were getting more dangerous in the Ministry, and he'd received word that his contact within the Order had been killed, and that there was a chance his letters might have been discovered. His cover could be blown any day, which meant that there was a chance Aisling might be captured and tortured to see if she had any information, too.

His cover wasn't blown, somehow. The cigarette break cover had to be abandoned (even though it'd be easier than ever, since he was up to a pack a day), and another way to communicate information had to be set upon, since owl post, Floo, and Apparition were out of the question. Finally, he and his new, unnamed contact settled on the even more absurd and spy-novel-ish convention of tucking coded parchments into the statuary in a certain London park. Percy felt stupid beyond belief, but it seemed to work.

Finally, in May of 1998, everything came to a head. The Battle of Hogwarts commenced, and Percy learned what Aberforth had meant when he said he wanted Percy to come when he was needed most. Not going to the Battle of Hogwarts was not an option, but when he arrived, he almost regretted it. Luckily, he was able to reconcile with his family, meeting his new sister-in-law, the Weasley family reunited - just in time to lose Fred. Percy was convinced that if he hadn't made that joke, if he hadn't been so shocking, they could have seen the wall coming and Fred could have dodged - or Percy could have pushed him out of the way, taking the fatal blow himself. It was his fault Fred was dead, he realized, and he took full responsibility for taking care of his body - and making sure Augustus Rookwood paid.

In the immediate aftermath of the battle, Percy stumbled upon Oliver Wood in a classroom torn and destroyed by the conflict. Though the two men hadn't spoken in years, no words were needed. They had sex against the wall of the classroom without a word being exchanged, and when it was done, Percy silently wept. No awkward good-byes were said, either, though Oliver did brush his fingers over Percy's as they left the classroom. Percy later wondered why and how it had been so easy, so simple, like pieces of a puzzle falling back into place, but he couldn't quite figure it out.

Percy's role in the Order was discovered by none other than his mother about a month after it all ended. Upon going through Remus Lupin's possessions after his death, she had discovered a sheaf of letters full of valuable information about the Ministry in a folder marked 'H.J.', all written in Percy's unmistakably neat hand. She brought them to Arthur, who verified the information and corroborated that it was certainly Percy's handwriting. That night, when Percy came to dinner at the Burrow, Molly threw herself at him and sobbed, leading Percy to awkwardly pat her shoulder and wonder what in the world had happened. It all came out that night after dinner: his espionage, the constant danger, even how his unhealthy new habit had played a role in all of it. Molly disapproved of his smoking, of course, but no one could deny the bravery of his actions.

Two months after the battle, a girl called Audrey King who worked in the Muggle Liaison Office (formerly the Muggle-born Registration Commission) asked Percy to sit next to her at lunch. He accepted, and two weeks after that, she took his hand under the table.

In December of 1998, Percy is all right. He has nightmares about the battle nearly every night and occasional flashbacks that terrify him, but Audrey is helping him with meditation and calming exercises that help him clear his mind. She is another bright spot of normality amongst a whole lot of crazy, and sometimes Percy thinks he might marry her. (He can almost ignore the flash of guilt by now.) He's still working with the Ministry under Minister Shacklebolt, and he's proud of his position once again. In the lower-stress environment of the post-war Ministry, he's managed to get down to half a pack a day, and is eventually hoping to quit entirely. He is looking forward to his first Christmas with his family in years, but he isn't looking forward to the first Christmas without Fred. Still, he knows the worst is over with, and he hopes things only get better from here.

Percy is bisexual with a slight preference for men, and realized as much shortly after leaving his parents' house. While in England, he ruthlessly shoves down the 'attracted-to-men' bit, though it comes out when he's drinking. He's hooked up with his co-worker Jonathan before, but nothing beyond snogging and frotting.

As far as women are concerned, he definitely has a 'type:' brainy brunettes. He dated Aisling for about eight months, and they started having sex about five months in, following a really excellent dinner and play. Now that he's dating Audrey, they've done everything except sex, and it's pretty obvious they both want that next step, and soon. He's considering making that her Christmas present, and sort of hoping she does the same for him.

The basic list of Percy's kinks are as follows:
- CR threads
- masturbation (mutual and non)
- oral (giving and receiving)
- heterosexual encounters
- homosexual encounters
- hard sex
- injuries during sex (bruises, some blood drawn)
- bondage
- dub-con (due to drugs, alcohol, etc)
- toys
- multiple partners (this would have to be after a lot of CR!)
