This strikes me as funny. This is only true if you're not used to ice on the ground being a normal occurrence. In much of the world it happens all the time. :)

Yeah, after I wrote it I also thought of cars and trains and the other million things on wheels that also glide pretty nicely, lol. I still maintain that ice skating has a unique quality, but concede that perhaps the statement was incomplete. :)
