There is a story of a man named Job. Most of you have heard, but for those who haven't, it is a story of faith and adversity. Or rather, faith through adversity.

These floods are simply that. Adversity. And we must still have faith. Faith in God. For though we are given these trials and given these tests...we must prevail.

SIGH.

I was hoping you'd be Bobby Darin. This is such a hit to the community...

Unfortunately, I've no idea what you're referring to.

I am blatantly stealing this bit from something else. most_feared June 13 2011, 04:41:02 UTC
[This is the first time he's bothered to talk to John Doe, but he supposes that he should finally say something.]

You know, there's a bit with Job that the Bible doesn't include.

After it was all said and done, Job had gone through his trials, and he'd passed, and he looked up to heaven and he said, "I've remained loyal, my lord, but now I have to ask. Why me? Why, out of all of your loyal servants, did you find my devotion worthy of testing?"

And then a thunderous voice from heaven said, "Well, Job, I guess there's just something about you that pisses me off."

Amusing. But not entirely helpful.

I think it's one of those, "Make your own moral" stories. The way I interpreted when I heard it? You're gonna get tested by life. It's going to wring your neck. But you have to come out on top just to show you can.

Or, it could mean you shouldn't bend to someone else trying to break you, because it might be the case it'll make you worse in the end.

Or yeah. Like you said. Just sort of an amusing story, that's not all that helpful. But makes it easier when life feels like it's knifing you in the gut.

Easier to blaspheme?

Perhaps.

I am still here. That's not for me to decide, but God.

God should tell whether you prevail or not in your life and your sins, sure, but I think asking him for the day-to-day behaviors might seem a little petty.

If I could wave my hand and have the floods go away forever, believe me, John. I fucking would do it in a heartbeat.

... Wait. What do you mean by 'the lightning'? Has Elle visited you again?
