I was just inspired by a conversation i was having with the lovely Christina, This article is a more in depth version of that conversation. Thank You and I hope you enjoy it. Fondly,Greg.
Finding Yourself: One thing many teenagers try to pursue is the act of finding themself for reasons that range from they do not like who they are as of now or to try to make things easier on them so they are not unsure of themselves in other situations. I myself wanted to make sure I knew who I was so i could flat out tell you, this is me, with no hesitations or questions I wanted to be able to find who I was and could tell you right there and then. Well, usually teenagers dont get what they want!
For me finding out who I was, was a way of showing my differences but at the same time showing my similarities. It was a way of my independance form the average normal teenager, But then I realized. What is normal?* Many teenagers try to find themselves for various different reasons. They may choose that they dislike themselves in a situation and change to feel comfortbale with themselves or change themselves to fit in with a certain clique or a certain group of friends. They may want to become new people to make scars of family or friend trauma dissaper. Like I said earlier it varys from each teenager.
When I started looking for myself I found I could label myself. Labeling yourself is not what you want. All I wanted was a specific kind of music I listen to but I found I listen to an assortment of musicians you could say acclecticor an array of artists. I then heard a quote that inspired me it goes: "It is not about finding yourself, It is about creating yourself." This tiny quote has so much information inside. This quote means you cant find yourself you just become who you will become!
Although you cant find yourself, Your friends can make turn you into whom you will become, Your friends have a large impact on the decissions that you make. An example, our wardrobe, most teenagers dress according to their friends or what is in "style" because it is "hip" or "cool" but thats not really you is it? Its someone your friends are making you become. Our friends do have a large impact from how you talk, what you dress like or even the decisions you make. Just be careful make the right decisions and pick the proper friends.
Back to finding yourself, you can force it on to youreslf and some do succeed in the quest to find yurself, are you really lost though? No, you are merely adapting to life and your surroundings and unsure of how you fit into this world around you. Don't worry everyone has there one day of glory when they realize who they are. Don't go out and look for yourself, create yourself.
*what is normal? This issue will be further discussed in a future entry
