He pulled me into the room, wrapping his arms around my waist. "I'm so happy to have you back..." I whispered to him.
"You're happy to have me back? I'm so happy to be back," he said smiling down at me.
"Why did you leave in the first place?"
"To protect you, Bell. Trust me, I didn't want to, not at all, but I had to, to keep you safe."
"Safe from what?" He didn't say anything and just stepped away. "Anthony, tell me. You can tell me anything."
"You promise you won't be afraid of me?"
"Of course not. Why would I be?"
"Anabel, I'm something called..." I could tell he was reluctant to tell me. "Something called a Shifter."
"Shifter? Like what do you mean? A shape-shifter?"
"No, no." He sat on his bed and motioned for me to sit next to him. "I can change the color of my eyes as I choose."
"So? What's the big deal with that?"
"Each color has it's own power. Some of the colors are dangerous."
"Like, dangerous? What do you mean?"
"One of the colors can actually kill others."
I looked at him a bit taken aback. How was I supposed to respond to that? The first thing that came to mind was if he had ever killed anyone before. "It doesn't matter, Anthony."
"Yes it does, Bell!"
"Why?"
"When I was younger, probably around thirteen or fourteen, my parents abandoned me... I've told you that before, right?" I nodded. "Well, I had been pretty messed up because of it. I started to live with my aunt and uncle and they spoiled me to no end. I was a really bad kid and got in with the wrong crowd. One night I was walking with my friends, this was after I found out about my... abilities. We were out late one night, drinking and just being stupid. I came home around three that morning. My aunt was on the couch half awake, half asleep. She looked at me and got up to give me a hug. Now, both my aunt and uncle were against drinking. I could stay out as late as I wanted, as long as I called, just no drinking. Well I had broken two of those rules. As soon as she smelt the alcohol on me, she blew it. My uncle came downstairs and joined in..." I saw a few tears drip into his lap.
"Anthony, I get it... It's okay," I said rubbing his back gently.
No it's not!" he quickly got off the bed. "I killed them! I got pissed and killed them! They were all I had..."
"No... Anthony, you killed them, you weren't thinking. You've grown and you're better than that now. I don't care about you past."
He looked up at me, tears spilling down his face. "I'm dangerous. People are after me because of this... this curse I have! Bell, I don't want to hurt you. I love you too much. If these people find out about you, they'll come and take you to get to me. I don't want that to happen..." He fell to his knees crying.
I, again, went over to him and hugged him tightly. "It's okay, we're together now. Nothing can ever keep us apart."
He held me close to him. "I'm going to keep it that way."
*****
It had been a few months since I learned about Anthony's secret. We were still the same people and I didn't care if he was "potentially dangerous" because I knew he wasn't a danger to me. I was making breakfast for us that morning when there was a knock at the door. I put the spatuala down to go answer it.
Anthony came bounding down the stairs. "Don't open the door!" he yelled.
"Why?" I asked stopping in front of the door.
"Get back..." he said a bit more quietly.
"Why? Anthony, what's going--" I was cut off by a gun shot that went through the door. It hit the exact spot I was standing. "Thanks," I muttered to Anthony.
"Don't worry about it. Now, go out the back door and just run."
"Okay..."
I turned and ran into the kitchen where the back door was and let out a little scream. "It's okay! Just go!" I heard Anthony yell.
I quickly opened the door and ran out of the house. I opened the gate and saw a man standing in front of me. I screamed and tried to run from him, but he caught my arm. "Anthony! Anthony, help me!" I managed to yell before the guy put his hand over my mouth and holding me to him.
"Quiet," he said sternly, "we're just going to use you for a little bit."
I tried to scream for Anthony, but the guy's hand around my mouth was too tight. "Stop struggling. I'm not going to hurt you. We just need you boyfriend."
A few more minutes passed by until I saw Anthony at the kitchen window. He looked at me and I noticed his eyes had turned a crimson red color. He disappeared from the window and soon he was at the back door yelling and cursing. "Let her go!" he yelled.
"Come with us quietly and we will," the guy who had me said.
Anthony looked at me and then at the guy. "Fine, just let her go and leave her alone..."
"That's fine." He pushed me out of the way and I fell to the ground.
"Anthony, no!" I yelled flipping myself over.
Bs came over to me and looked into my eyes. "Bell, I have to go. It'll be okay, I'll be okay..." He kissed me softly and then went over to the guy.
If he goes... I go too!" I yelled standing upright.
Anthony looked at me in shock. The guy just smiled. "Well, that could be arranged."
"No wait! She doesn't know what she's talking about. Leave her alone, just take me."
"Anthony, you promised nothing would keep us apart."
He walked back over to me. "What are you doing?"
"I don't want to be apart from you, Anthony."
"Bell, you don't want to go where I'm going. There's other people like me. Only people like me. I can protect myself against them. You won't be able to."
"You'll be there for me, though." I took his hand. "Won't you?"
"Of course I would, but... there I won't be able to all the time. Also, I don't want you to get... killed..."
"What do you mean?"
"If you go in, you don't come out. They kill you, Anabel."
I looked at him blankly. "You were going to let yourself get killed for me?! No! Anthony, I'm not going to let you do that to your--" I was cut off b a sharp pain in my neck. Anthony's eyes were a green color.
"You can't come with me, Bell."
"Anthony, s-stop... You're hurting me..." The pain moved down my back and into my arms and legs. My legs gave out and I fell to the ground, curling in on myself."
"I'm sorry, Bell." He crouched down next to me and brushed my hair out of my face. "I love you."
Tears were pouring down my face and I was sobbing uncontrollably. "D-Don't leave me!" I cried.
"I have to Bell." I looked up at him and into his eyes. They were a soft lavender color. The pain inside menwent away and a wash of drowsiness came over me. My eyes got heavy and soon the were closed.
I felt one, last, soft kiss on my forehead and then I fell into a deep sleep.
I'm really happy with this actually! Haha! There will be a part tolwo soon! :)
