Okay. So I've randomly asked many people this question... And what I find interesting about it, is the fact that everyone I've asked has an immediate definitive answer. So, I want to see if I'm simply a basket case (surrounded by many other basket cases) or if it really is something 'everyone' thinks about.

I keep it open, except when my boyfriend stays over, because it is an unholy mess and he's a tidy person.

Well, at least if your closet is an unholy mess, you don't have to worry about serial killers hiding in there. It wouldn't be nearly as scary if you heard a scratch, followed by BANG THUD CRASH "sonuva!" BAM POW THUD! XD

Keep the heavy things up high, and let gravity take care of the perp. :p

There is pretty much no way a serial killer would fit in my closet. I would be kind of impressed if one did manage that.

Me: "Dude, congrats. I thought I couldn't fit anything else in there. Props to you."
SK: "I'm stuck!"
Me: *unsurprised* "Can I offer you a tasty beverage while we wait for the cops to come and pry you out of there? A bloody Mary, perhaps?"

I chose closed, because I'm pretty sure it usually is, but it is wide open at the moment, and now I'm pretty sure I haven't had a closed closet in like six months.
