Feng shui notes

I'm... really interested in furniture arrangement, and so I'm taking notes on a lecture here.
^^;

Living Room

It's a place to relax with friends!
Muted colors, tactile fabrics, and soft furniture

Place a sofa or base chairs in the "power position" -- facing main entrance, but not aligned with it.
No back to the entrance -- if your back is to the door, add a table there and a plant to act like a screen.

A flat-screen TV shouldn't be in the living room
If you must place it in the living room, play a screen saver that shows a fireplace or fish tank

Creating ying and yang -- mix dark and light, curvy and straight, geometric and floral, and hard and soft

No clutter, and resist the urge to overdecorate.
Try removing two pieces of furniture if your living room feels over cluttered.

Bedroom

Rest and romance only
Place your bed in the best position for restful sleep where you can see the doorway without having to turn your head more than 90 degrees.
It should be against a solid wall.
Hang a rug behind you or some kind of fabric.
Don't place bed in front of a window, or if you must, use window treatment.
Don't place your bed in the corner on a diagonal. If you have no other choice, fill the space with something.
Keep the bathroom door closed at night if you can see the bathroom.
Place matching night tables if you are sleeping with someone else to symbolize equality. Also, no one should have to climb over the other person to get out of bed--that symbolizes being trapped in a relationship.
Don't place your bed with your feet pointed directly at the door -- if you have no choice, then place something in front of your feet to feel more protected--like a small chest or a foot board.

P.S. Um, hi LJ.
