Giving very little deep thought to it, I'm going with "Life sucks right now and I wanted to be somebody else, then I remembered you loved me and the world seemed to shine just for me". But, that could just be me.
hmmm im not usually one who can understand old english and break it down into terms i can actually understand but what the hey? i guess i'll take a stab at it...
well, i think the first half is talking about the bondange of envy and greed. and how even the thing he loves most isnt good enough. and then with the 'lark at break of day arising from the sullen earth'... i would think that after being in the "sullen earth" for so long, anything would seem better. it would actually feel like freedom to get out of there and into the "break of day". and then last 2 lines possibly being that love is more beautiful than even the riches of a king. it is more satisfying than anything tangible. so possibly the point of the sonnet is that either taht true love brings complete satisfaction or that love can free you from envy and greed and malcontent?
There is a man in torment. He greatly pities himself and cries out to Heaven who has seemed to turn a deaf ear towards him - his troubles are not lessened. He looks at his troubled state and is in disgust with himself and that he has no hope of better things, only grief of what he is and has now. He is not content with the things that he once enjoyed and all he can do is envy what others have: their talents, views of the world, emotions, life situations, etc. He sees everyone around him and cannot look passed how miserable he is and how much he lacks verses how much everyone else has. And because of that mind set, he is sickened. He sees that his viewpoint is blurry and he knows that the way he is perceiving his life is wrong and pathetic - and that causes him to despise himself. But there is one thing in his life that brings him joy and that is the one he loves. When he thinks of (lets assume it is a she) When he thinks of her, his life doesnt seem so miserable.
