It's not too hard to work out an excuse for having a young woman and her baby aboard the Enterprise, but only because McCoy has been planning out the logistics in his head for a while now. Obviously he has to ask for a little assistance, but he's on good enough terms with the command crew that he can pull in a couple small favors, and have it ( Read more... )

It'd be lying to say Donna hadn't put a little more effort than usual - and she's not exactly a low maintenance kind of girl in the first place - into getting herself and her daughter ready for this outing. It's not every day a girl gets to visit the Enterprise, after all, and even sans-Picard it's a little staggering. So the both of them are a little more polished, and Donna's relatively sure that the Stark tech floating stroller won't be too crazy here.

(Sirja's walking, by now, but not so much that Donna goes without a stroller for long outings.)

Having resorted to bribery to keep Sirja in the stroller while they wait for McCoy to arrive outside the hospital, Donna doesn't actually see him coming; she's not wearing her contacts and Sirja is holding onto her glasses for entertainment.

They're easy enough for McCoy to spot, and he picks up the pace in their direction. The Starfleet uniform should be recognizable even from a distance, once he's near, but he raises his hand anyway in greeting.

"Donna," he smiles at the little girl in the stroller. "And I guess this is Sirja. Haven't been waitin' long, I hope."

Oh, well, now that he's here Donna needs her glasses back - she grins up at him, squinting a little, while she pries them out of Sirja's grip. "Hey, you. No, we're good - just somebody doesn't like sitting in a stroller while it's not moving, I guess. Annnnd that somebody would be Sirja, baby, say hello-"

While Sirja does not deign to greet McCoy, he is at least distracting enough for Donna to acquire her glasses with a little less effort.

Well maybe what McCoy's hiding behind his back will help. He holds out an old-fashioned rag doll toward Sirja, with a questioning look for her mother. "You did say she likes dolls..."
