Well written and I think you are too hard on yourself.

Thanks. I hear that all the time. Must be true then.

Wow I've heard of psychologists specializing on working with people with chronic medical issues and pain, but never one specializing in facial pain. That is so cool. Sounds like you got a good education.

I'm sorry your education wasn't better than you had hoped. A good library does help, but I like my learning not only to come from books.

It is our instinct as humans to survive ourselves. Only when one is safe can they help others.

Perhaps you could think of it that way, that you are focusing on you in order to be able to focus on others? One must be able to help in order to help and if rest and time alone helps you..that is what is needed.

I feel for you. I can't imagine. I had something a lot of fibromyalgia for about a year and I know what you mean..when I am in physical pain, especially for a long period of time, it is hard to care about anyone else.

I really wish I had some kind of solution for you, something that could make things better. I hope that some researcher will find a solution SOON.

I do usually think of it that way, taking care of myself. That is something that is sometimes hard for me though.

I'm ready for a researcher to come up with a cure, or an experiment I can try.

Only when one is safe can they help others.

A friend of mine calls this the Oxygen Mask Rule, because of what they tell you in airplane safety information: make sure your own mask is secure before helping others. We're no good to anyone if we aren't looking after ourselves.

But I struggle with it, and my friend does, and I think most people do. We wouldn't have reason to talk about it so much, if it was easy.

It is definitely the oxygen mask rule. It's a hard one to remember. I don't know why I struggle with it when in some cases others have no trouble with it.

Well-written, something I can relate to, and completely understandable. When you're in pain like that, you turn inward. It's natural, not wrong, not something to be hated. You have to take care of yourself in those moments, hours and days. It's healthy & how you love yourself.

Thank you. Your comment is so true, but it is still a thing I have a hard time accepting about myself.
