Isn't it amazing how we start off thinking we know, and then realise how little that is?! This was such a lovely entry, full of perspective and nostalgia, and I loved the quotes you used. While my relationships with my dogs are different, I can understand some of that connection you describe.

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it so much. I definitely find it funny what we think we know but don't.

Such a beautiful journey of self-discovery as you discovered the way to work with your dogs.

One typo - "rites of passage", should be "rite" :)

It's always fascinating to hear about your dogs!

Animals, like humans all have unique personalities. Therefore there's always something new to learn. Loved this story. AW

This was lovely. And it is true. Partnerships are stronger than relationships where one is in charge and one is not.

Our Lab/Shepherd Lucy is smart and I've found simple things with her go better when I explain. She picks up on things pretty quickly and working with her instead of forcing her to do things works well. I've never felt so in tune with a dog before.

::hugs:: on your losses. It sounds like each of your dogs has been VERY wonderful!

It's amazing how the different personalities of the dogs helped you learn more about how to work with them. Great entry.

Yep, I assume it will keep happening with each new dog, even though I don't want to think of getting a new dog.
