I suspect that a lot of people will relate to this post. Weight has been a constant struggle for me, too. I have been very size on the spectrum and I am now at my highest weight except during pregnancy. Still trying to figure out a way to lose weight that doesn't involve obsession. My whole life was about that for years and I am just not willing to do it anymore.
I remember your writing about having expired food in the cupboards last season but I didn't make the connection then. I have two friends currently in W.W. and I didn't know the point system was so rigid till they were just talking about it yesterday. Do you have any OA (Overeaters Anonymous) groups near you? Maybe you have tried them already but Twelve Step programs are quite successful. You get support from others with the same struggles and it's free.
The only OA group meets in the evenings and not in the town I live in, so that's just not happening for me energy wise. Only one meeting at one time and day a week is offered and it would cost me thirty bucks on paratransit to get there and back.
I understand weight issues. I am on hiatus from dieting right now..I don't know that I will never diet again...but it just wears at me to the point I feel like I am shortchanging other people in my life when I diet.
I know the weight struggle well, and also the one about trying to find balance between obsessing about food (which reinforces itself) and ignoring when I'm overeating.
Just one little question: has anyone ever considered whether you might have OCD on top of the Asperger's? Because things like 'rounding off numbers' and 'evenness' and overmanaging numbers until they're more 'orderly' or 'nice' is also an OCD trait. If it's not all Asperger's but also partly OCD, you might be able to treat the OCD portion and dial down the effects a little bit.
Your current plan sounds very good: eat healthier (I see this as less fat, less sugar, and fewer simple carbs), eat smaller portions, and move around more. All of those are good lifestyle changes, and none of them need to be micromanaged. You might have found a way to thwart the personality traits that create roadblocks!
The OCD traits are part of the aspergers. I take anti-depressants that work well on OCD and it has helped a lot. Not enough that I will ever try weight watchers again though.
This week I am dying for some carbs. It is horrible. Tomorrow is my one day to wait until I can have my one treat. Until then I'm avoiding cookies that are in the freezer.

This is an important thing I need to learn how to do, too, but it's so much easier said than done. :/
