A story is built around an ending. Even in your story the book will be written about how the character dies. The focus being the character's death and what lead up to it. No matter how much you want to change the focus the point of a story has to be about a resolution. It can never be about events. It is like studying a person's life up to the age of 25. Not much has happened there isn't much interest there unless they made it famous but just studying events in a life without resolution is boring and really meaningless. So I love the idea of the book and starting backwards and building up to the resolution is great. It is like crash which I must say is probably the best movie I have seen in a while and if oyu haven't seen it yet is a must see.
