But Blogs have a special blend. They're very easy to write in (much more so than a national newspaper) and easy to feel anonymous behind.
I think they've always been a danger zone there, but if we stopped an said "Oh no, there's a big risk of defamation here. Let's stop blogging" the world would be a worse off place.

I suspect that with the changes in the law, and the rabid pursuit of bloggers by the mainstream media - there's going to be some big changes in blogging over the next few years. Blogging for commerical purposes - which i suppose is already what is happening here in lj-land anyway.

I have heard though that some people spend a lot of time protecting their products online - or in the case of some of the gossip colums - getting into trouble over trash talking.
It's not good imho to have it taken down to the blogging level.
