wow, just wow.
What is with the pursuit of suing that goes on?  i wonder what the long term repercussions would be now that someone's won a sweet $11 million - that they will never see - over words hurled over the Net?  If you think I'm joking, do have a look at the most recent cases in courts in the usa

Language is interesting. Most people would be uncomfortable spouting certain lies to someone's face, but write it in a paper and it's much easier. You've still got to think about what you're doing there, though. Say the wrong thing about some big name and you're up in court.

But Blogs have a special blend. They're very easy to write in (much more so than a national newspaper) and easy to feel anonymous behind.

I think they've always been a danger zone there, but if we stopped an said "Oh no, there's a big risk of defamation here. Let's stop blogging" the world would be a worse off place.

I enjoy blogging. Its that strange combination of telling/sharing and rambling. I do find it though is kind of an interesting way to meet people.

I suspect that with the changes in the law, and the rabid pursuit of bloggers by the mainstream media - there's going to be some big changes in blogging over the next few years. Blogging for commerical purposes - which i suppose is already what is happening here in lj-land anyway.

"I don't condone people trash talking everyone they don't like... but I don't agree with people keeping everything inside."
exactly!
:D

I think if all i heard from a "friend" off lj was trashtalk, I would most likely defriend them. Just a lack of interest on my part.

Truly, I believe that half of the time, people do not read my journal anyways.

So, I just say whatever I please.

I just do not care anymore. Specially with all of the drama that happened after me and my fiancee broke up.....

Nope. I do not care......Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah:P

heh.. i'm sure most of the people with blogs believe the same thing. Still, the court cases are a big change on the way things work. When they go after say - the people who own LiveJournal - because the host the offending party - thats when thing trickle down.

hehe.. there ya go! heh. i actually am pretty private in regards to my friends. Besides I'll tell them to their face. ;)

I have heard though that some people spend a lot of time protecting their products online - or in the case of some of the gossip colums - getting into trouble over trash talking.

It's not good imho to have it taken down to the blogging level.
