His finger typed the last stroke even as he was getting up from his chair. Halfway down the stairs, he remembered to post his journal, and then it was out the door and around the corner to see what the commotion was about. L had, of course, ( Read more... )

He kept attempting to apologize profusely, but it was difficult because she kept saying the most shocking things. He allowed her to help him up, but mainly he just stood there and stared at her. She was obviously a newcomer, but she had dealt with such beasts before? How strange. Then it struck him. The only newcomer he had spoken with that had mentioned such things was, "Lina? Lina Inverse?" He asked her. There wasn't really time for formalities, so just said, "It's L. We spoke on the communications network...?"

At that moment a dragon, vibrantly red in color, cam crashing down onto the roof of the pub. L's heart raced; where could they go? This dragon was much bigger and stronger than him, and although Lina seemed calm, such a reaction appeared to be ludicrous in the face of so much destructive power. There was a beat, a moment of reaction while the beast prepared itself for the kill. The detective, feeling completely powerless, turned to Lina, the question written all over his face;

"What do we do?!",

"You're L? I--" Lina began, but was unable to finish due to the dragon that had suddenly crashed down onto the roof of the pub. The expression on her faced changed into something more serious this time. Evidently, it was time for her to stop taking it so lightly. Suddenly, Lina reached out and grabbed onto L's wrist. "There's not any time to ease you into it, so...Leviation!"

Lina glowed for only a mere second before she shot upwards into the sky, pulling L along with her. She took them up high enough that they were out of immediate danger from the dragon, but didn't just stop there. She took off towards the other side of town where the dragons had yet to reach. A glance was offered towards L, who was pulled along at her side. "Don't worry! You won't fall as long as I've got you." She said, looking back forward. "We have to find somewhere to land and then figure out what we're gonna do about these things."

What we're going to do?

Poor L was going to have nightmares for weeks.

He was about to protest as she grabbed his wrist, but he didn't have time. being pulled up into the sky was, by far, the strangest sensation that the detective had ever felt. Of course he had flown before, but only when he was strapped safely into vehicles that facilitated such flight. He was fighting his own reactions, fighting the urge to be sick or scared. Instead he made his mind blank and focused on the task at hand.

"I'm sorry, madam," he replied, "I have no experience in the realm of fighting dragons. I also lack any available skills or magics to use against them. I can operate weapons, though, if you know where there are any to be found..." He was obviously doing his best. Had he been able to find a fire arm, he would have at least had a chance against them. At that moment, he very strongly envied the powers of Naruto, of Lina, and of any of the newcomers that had the ability to fight these beasts. As it were, he felt quite helpless, and he highly doubted that any sophisticated weaponry existed in this place.
