ICON TUTORIAL FOR EMMY. My method is simple, clean, and fast, so it's good for people who just want decent coloured-manga RP icons. I don't know shit about photoshop, and most of what I know I learned from experimenting. DON'T TRUST ME.

Sorry about the crappy explanations. I don't know any photoshop terms :(

We start off with cropping the image, of course.

Since the background is just a bitch to colour, and our main focus is on the character's expression, you can just erase all that shit, like so.

After we erase the background, we can begin cleaning up the image so it's easier to colour. We do this by putting an overlay layer on top of it. You locate it here:

VOILA, CLEAN.

Now we can colour.

Now that you have this layer, you can colour without colouring over the black lines.

There.

Now there's the black we want to colour over. First, select your original base.

Create another layer.

And set it to screen.

Now you can colour over the black :)

After you're done colouring, resize the image to 100x100. After that, you can sharpen the colouring by setting another overlay image on top of it.

Sometimes it can look too sharp. If this happens, just lower the percentage until you're satisfied with how it looks.

You can also readjust the colours if you want them to be duller or more vivid. :D

You can mess around with the colours with the box that comes up. After this, create another 100x100 image and fill it in with what ever colour you want to use for the background.

Use the tool circles in red and click the background. Click the "source" box and choose your new 100x100 image. THEEEN click darken. This will fill your background with the colour, which is much faster than painting it yourself.

Now use this image.

Follow these instructions. Soft light (won't look as intense as overlay, but it'll brighten up the image) and overlay both work. You can play with the percentages.

Done.
