I was looking forward to the beginning of April for several weeks, and it was finally here!
April Fool's Day is one of my favorite holidays, for obvious reasons. I didn't pull any notable capers this year, but Wrestlemania 23 just happened to fall upon it! Sheila and I went down to BW3's and were later joined by Ashley, Amy, and Emma Kidd and her boyfriend! It was a great night of food, beer, and violence...three of my favorite things! WM23 was a great show, and everyone had a great time, which I love - because then I can say "Told'ja so" to non-wrestling fans!
Two days later, Ashley -- oh, beloved beautiful Ashley -- treated me to a viewing at the Hobby Center...for Wicked! The tickets to this show were impossible to get...Ashley got them through working at Pappasitos, which was quite a lucky break! The show was absolutely phenomenal...I did get lucky, but I would gladly pay whatever price to see this great example of theatre! If you ever get a chance...see it -- you will not regret it, and you WILL be changed for good!
It had some significance for me to see this show...I had first found out about it through Angel almost a year earlier. I had come to love it through her, and when we were together, I had hoped we'd be able to see it together. It just didn't happen that way, though, and seeing the show without her was an inadvertent event/factor in me finally letting her go.
Just two days later, Martin and I traveled to Austin for a day to see Citizen Cope! I had been listening to Cope for years...since I lived in Deer Park...but I'd never gotten to see him live. I introduced Martin to his music, and he loved it too, so off we went!
The weather was incredible...which was a plus for walking around 6th Street and driving windows down to save on gas. Naturally, most things on 6th Street don't get started until nightfall, so we just checked out a few shops. I would've like to check out some things around Austin, but I didn't do any research. Martin brought a bottle of Patron and carried it in his bag. We ate at the Iron Cactus and had spiked margaritas.
Cope went on at around 7...we were first in line so we were right under the stage! We were surrounded by hotness...Cope's fanbase seems to be prevalent amongst young, hot, sorority girls! It was funny, because Martin doesn't like to really go crazy or show his emotions in public -- so he's in the front row, with all these girls bouncing around him, and he's stonefaced. So funny! We had an awesome time. If you've never heard Citizen Cope's music, Google his name and check it out!
We got a small taste of 6th Street nightlife after the concert...very crowded, very sharky. People try to charge you for everything. And there's very little food! We looked everywhere for eats, to very little avail! We finally found a place, which was right across the street from where we saw Cope...they charged a $5 cover, which was better than the $10 covers everywhere else. We grabbed a bite and listened to some of the (horrible) bands that were playing. We left and made our way home at about midnight. Later we found out from a girl that was hanging out with us that shortly after we left, Cope came up and hung out where we were! That disgusted us a bit, but there was a long drive ahead, and we didn't want to make it after leaving Austin at 2am. We had a great time, regardless!
Two days later (!) the Black Math Experiment performed at Jake's Bar on Bissonet! What an incredible show it was, too...Sheila was stagehanding for them, because they amped up a lot of the gimmicks: blow-up palm trees, mannequins to model t-shirts, a balloon drop, which was spectacular, and let's not forget the oh-so-awesome toilet paper gun! They also debuted a couple of new songs, including a ridiculously cool cover of Nine Inch Nails' Closer.
The following Tuesday was a milestone for me...I paid my cell phone bill on time for a full year! So, as per the agreement, I was to be refunded the $400 deposit I had made upon activation! I had planned to use this plus my tax return to get a new car...I'll touch upon that later.
Saturday the 14th I hung out with Deborah for the fist time in a while...we went to see Tick Tick Boom, which was a play about the creator of Rent. Deb had a deep love affair with Rent, so I knew she'd like this. It was greatly executed out of TheatreLAB...I had never been there before, and I was impressed! I was a little shocked at the demographic, though...there were only a couple of other peeps in the place that were our age...the majority was older. Afterwards we went to Agora, and we ran into a few of her friends there. I had this really great foreign beer there...don't remember the name, but I'd remember it from seeing it. Steph joined us then for a viewing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, always shadowcasted perfectly on the second Saturday of each and every month by Mina and her Beautiful Creatures! I rarely get to see Steph, so it was a treat!
So ends the busy first half of April...more to come!
