Finally! I've been trying to get back into my writing for some time now, but I've been insanely busy with schoolwork and other RL inconveniences, and I just didn't have enough energy to make anything happen (despite all the ideas I've been tossing around). But today I saw a meme on the Plaude community with the following instructions:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.
I chose Mylar as the subject (although #3 is gen Sylar, and a couple have Matthinder undertones) because it seemed like the easiest, given my music collection. :) Here was the final result. All of these are un-beta'd, because I wasn't supposed to spend more than the allotted song time on any one story, so I apologize for any errors or awkward phrasing. (And I apologize for #4, which is just kind of pathetic.)
Title: "Music and Madness: 10 Mylar Drabbles"
Fandom/Pairing: Heroes, Mylar
Rating: PG

Summaries are impossible, since these stories are everywhere at once. :) Enjoy!
1- “World Spins Madly On” the Weepies (2:45)
These days, when he woke up in the morning, Mohinder felt sick. Sylar’s visit to his flat, his intrusion into the comfortable life he’d made with Matt Parkman and Molly, left him feeling violated and helpless. It was like he could feel Sylar on him, a cold hand on his arm, heavy breath on his back.
It wasn’t really the intrusion itself that bothered him, he thought. It was the desire for the murderous man who committed it that left the most lasting impression on his mind.
2- “My Oh My” David Gray (4:37)
Not even Mohinder could explain why he was drawn to the man he initially called Zane, but from the moment he first saw him, there was an electricity there, a static cling of attraction. Zane Taylor cured something inside Mohinder. He felt more alive around the other man, so trusting, like he could do anything, knew everything. Zane melted something in his heart and reinvigorated him, making him into something bigger and more powerful.
When he discovered that he’d been wrong, that this Zane Taylor was actually Sylar, the serial killer they were all pursuing, all his assumptions and assurances fell away. But the feelings- the attraction, the determination, the power- they didn’t go away. Instead, they constantly battled in his head against a feeling of despair, which threatened to take hold at any point, reminding him of the depravity of knowing this man and still loving him.
3- “Silence” Sarah McLachlan (6:33)
It had been almost ten years since Sylar had been in a church. He no longer trusted the Latin chants, the perfume of incense, the hollow-eyed figures of saints and messiahs, the way he did when he was a child. All desire for consolation had faded once he embraced his true nature, and accepted that those who were superior did what they were meant to do, regardless of some outdated legislation from above.
But now that his powers were back, something had changed. Sylar had to be seen, needed to be witnessed by the very deity that he had given up on so many years ago.
The church was empty when he entered, lit only by the candles that flickered their light in unpredictable shadows across Sylar’s face. After a moment he came to stand at the altar, in front of the wooden cross suspended at the front of the room, visible by all who would ever sit there.
“There is no higher power than me,” he spoke into the reverent silence of the empty chapel, then louder, “Only me.”
And he was at peace.
4- “Jump (for my Love)” the Pointer Sisters (4:01)
He couldn’t take it anymore.
It was just impossible. Why did Mohinder insist on being so damn sexy all the time? Everything he did was turning Sylar on. He hadn’t realized doing dishes could be so attractive, but the Indian man lent it a whole new level of naughtiness. And to make it even better, he was singing along to the radio. An out-of-tune voice which sounded absolutely awful, and was even worse when he started doing a little jumpy dance along with it.
Not sexy- unless you were Mohinder Suresh.
5- “We Are Broken” Paramore (3:38)
“Are you going to let me go?”
He asked that every day, as they sat at the breakfast table. As if he hadn’t gotten into this situation voluntarily, left his job with the Company and his makeshift family to be with Sylar. At the time he’d thought they could start over, make it better than it was. But the relationship had become irrevocably broken, and nothing he did could fix it. So he tried the only thing he could: leaving.
Sylar looked up from his coffee. “Why would you want to go?”
6- “The Weakness in Me” Joan Armatrading (3:34)
He didn’t want to let Matt go. The man had been so good to him; he had such a kind heart, and he was a great father to Molly. Once Mohinder had thought he would want nothing more than to have this domestic life with the cop forever.
But he knew that Sylar was nearby, didn’t need Molly’s power to figure that out. Every so often, when he was walking back from the store or driving away after dropping Molly off at school, he would see something out of the corner of his eye: a man in a black coat, with an intense gaze that never left him. Each time a sighting occurred he felt a little more drawn to the shadowy figure.
So he had a choice to make: the life he knew, or a new life with Sylar?
7- “Our Love Will Make the World Go Round” the Meligrove Band (3:21)
Sometimes Sylar wished Mohinder would just shut up. The man was constantly worrying about them, about whether they would be caught, reminding Sylar of how dangerous this was and how many ways they could die because of it. It was maddening, and Sylar couldn’t keep a clear head with all the fussing.
So finally he wheeled around, grabbing Mohinder’s face roughly on either side with both his hands, tight enough to leave red marks in his wake. “Mohinder,” he growled, looking directly into the geneticist’s startled eyes. “I don’t care. I don’t care how many gruesome ways we could die today. It doesn’t matter. I love you, and that’s all I need in the world. So shut up.”
Mohinder complied.
8- “Worry a Lot” the Like Young (2:31)
One cold December day, Sylar came back into their apartment to find Mohinder sitting in front of his computer, frowning at the computer with all his might. As his lover entered the room, the Indian man threw up his hands in frustration and let his head fall to the tabletop in front of the machine, his hands threading through his hair.
Sylar paused for only a moment before going to his side, lifting the head from the desk and stroking the beautiful face before him. One by one the worry lines faded away, until there was only a tired expression before him.
“That’s my boy,” Sylar whispered with a smile.
9- “Painted on My Heart” the Cult (4:37)
He couldn’t forget it. Mohinder couldn’t forget the image of Sylar- he couldn’t stop calling him Zane in his head, even knowing the man’s true identity- on Kirby Plaza, staring down at the open wound in his side. His eyes had been lost, shocked, and Mohinder’s throat clenched as he remembered those beautiful, wicked eyes going blank as the life seeped out of him.
A different image had been burned into his mind and heart: a mischievous smile, gentle hands, and kisses that left a tingling sensation in their wake. Even as he went about his normal life, cooking meals and taking Molly to the hospital to visit Matt and cleaning house, he couldn’t rid himself of the memory of Zane, his Zane, transformed to Sylar and finally lying cold and dead on the ground.
He was starting to believe he’d never be free of him, even in death.
10- “Avalanche” by Thea Gilmore (4:22)
There were the good memories from their road trip across the country- late-night camp outs in the middle of nowhere, the two of them lying on the hood of the car, drinking cheap beer and talking about how they would save the world one day. Mohinder felt like a real teenager for perhaps the first time in his life, certainly more so than when he had actually been an adolescent boy.
He had really thought this was his purpose in life, to travel the country (maybe the world) with Zane, telling people about the existence of special abilities and saving the world from evil masterminds. And Zane never once told him anything different. He just sat there and took another sip of the watered-down drink, stared at the sky and said, “Sure, Mohinder. Sure. One day we’ll save them all.”
It had never occurred to him that the man could be lying. Until he discovered the real Zane Taylor was long dead, and the man he was with intended to save the world in quite a different way.
