Everyone approaches The Holy Books in a different way. At first, I was intimidated by Crowley's reputation, but became interested after reading Book 4 and The Book of Thoth. The first copy of The Holy Books, and the one I still have, is the 1983 hardback one that I nabbed as soon as it was published. Back then going through the Class A material, I felt very lost and a bit overwhelmed. Slowly but surely I chipped away at bits. The one thing I can say about my engagement with them is that they have never seemed stale; never has there been a time when I can say with all surety that I have figured them and with each reading new qualities of the texts are revealed. And I hope that it ever remains thus, that the inspired lines speak afresh each time I read them.
