I've finally finished Nick Joaquin's The Woman Who Had Two Navels and I'm not quite sure what I think about it.
I'm pretty certain that it's my favorite book written by a Filipino, but that isn't much to go by on as far as critiques count as I have read less than 10 books in that category.
The story is strange, really. At times seemingly too far-fetched for the reality I was just starting to feel, and at times too deep or long-winding in how it was written. I don't know if I really do understand it or, well, not.
Maybe it's just too heavy--too thought-provoking--for my current state of mind. (Which reminds me; I really want to see a shrink some time soon.) Or maybe it just wasn't made to be read over the span of several months, with long and odd pauses in between.
I like it better that A Hundred Years of Solitude though. (Mostly because I haven't gotten very far into that novel.) But, as I want to learn a whole bunch of things (like how to write properly and how other people's minds work), I suppose I should just read and somehow finish it before next Friday.
It's nearly summer vacation. Why should we focus on such tedious things?
*summer mode* <3
Kim Flores said that my blog--I think she said blog; I feel awkward referring to this as a blog, even though I suppose it really is one--is weird. I asked her why and she said it just was, like that explained all her inexplicable thoughts.
In a word, though, she said it was creepy.
That made me...to be honest, I don't know what it made me, feel or think or otherwise. I suppose I was just a bit pleased that all these ramblings weren't taking up lonely parts of cyberspace for no reason. Hey, someone actually reads this. Amazing.
After she left, I told Mariel what she had said. And then Mariel said that she liked my blog, in words that are sort of like this: it's like you can't understand it but you like it anyway.
So that got me thinking even more, mostly about how strange I must be to not have Mariel understand a bit more of this. But I don't think I really want anybody to, anyway, so I'll just shut up about that.
Do you read this journal? Or are you just randomly passing through?
Whatever your purpose may be here, please leave a comment. A testimonial of sorts; what you think of all my ramblings or what you think, in general. It would be muchly appreciated. <3
Been eating a whole lot since yesterday. Brownies and oatmeal and crackers and taho and corn.
*plump* I feel bloated. But I still want to eat anyway.
We have a take-home quiz for Chem. It scares me. I'm never sure if I'm doing any of it right.
Sir Ron says it's our prerogative if we would cheat or not. Oh, gah. Would comparing count? I won't dare change my answers if they were wrong, but at least I would know sooner why I got things wrong again.
And, gah, investigatory projects. Ours is going to be due after the final exams, meaning we have to go back to school to pass and to defend. We can focus on studying then. Yay.
Must find gum Arabic though. No experiment without it. :|
On a happy note, he also said that the current SD people would not have to take the qualifying examinations. We were in, if we wanted to be.
Of course we want to be. It's more fun there, even if it's hell at times. The assurance of having a good teacher makes up for the late nights. And although my grades aren't really SD material, I'm pretty sure I'm learning more. That's what will really count in the end, right?
I'm staying with Kuya Bert for a while over the summer. Will take the Mensa test. Weehoo. :D It won't be that much of a disappointment if I don't pass. It's for high IQ people, after all. Right now, I don't feel like I belong.
I need a shrink to tell me, in a nice and subtly placating way, that I'm being stupid.
We watched our projects for World History today. That scared me. I may have a chance to improve it though, because our video was supposed to be the last one in queue and we sort of ran out of time.
Today was mildly irritating, somehow disappointing.
The dreaded chamber theater presentation has been moved to Thursday and while I'm happy to not cram so much, it would have been a lot better if we were informed earlier. Like sometime before we brought a tons of things for school, maybe?
Oh, gah. I really should just count the good things.
The world is a cookie.
It crumbles and can be messy as hell
but even the crumbs are delicious.
You're great, you know that? I've been such a bitch lately and here you are, still being a friend. Thanks. <3
My heart is yours to fill or burst,
to break or bury, or wear as jewelry
--whichever you prefer.
I'll never get a proper life if I keep on writing here.
Mariel and Laurie are going to Europe. They're missing class tomorrow to go to the Czech embassy.
What are the chances that they could steal me away?
