For Kurt

They were on the beach. Risk of sunburn or not, falling on your face in the sand hurts a hell of a lot less than faceplanting on the concrete in the Rec Center or wherever ( Read more... )

He'd chosen bright colors that day, hues that weren't easily sullied by sand or dirt or anything else that the island had to throw at him. Colors that would even break through pouring rain if needed- and make no mistake, sudden rains occurred with rather alarming frequency on the island, Kurt had discovered shortly after arriving. But most of all, Kurt wanted his appearance to reflect the way he felt just then, bright, ready, and nigh unstoppable.

Of course, practicing self-defense with Puck was a far cry from dealing with actual ill-meaning bullies. A far, far cry indeed. Judging by the dubious look on Puck's face alone, Kurt was starting to doubt whether or not the other young man was even capable of throwing his all at a friend, and- well, frankly, the exercise was a lot less helpful if he wasn't willing to put a little elbow grease into it. For a brief moment, Kurt stopped to ponder just how much things had changed between the two of them, and tilted his head with the very slightest remorse over the fact that they would probably ( ... )

There was a crude joke to be made in there, somewhere, but he managed to swallow it down, instead only arching a brow and flashing Kurt a knowing smirk.

Under normal circumstances, Puck could break Kurt like a twig. He'd spent the better part of their first couple of years at McKinley tossing him into dumpsters to prove it. But he also knew there was a good chance that Natalia chick had taught him some decent moves.

"Fine whatever. So, I'm just supposed to... come at you, or what?"

Kurt nodded, holding both arms out dramatically, as though trying to wave Puck in the right direction with a visual trigger. Truth be told, he was a bit nervous, there was no denying that. After all, Puck was significantly larger than Kurt, and although Kurt felt confident in the fact that his friend wouldn't deliberately try to hurt him in any way, accidents happened. With alarming frequency, even, in the glee club. Still.

Still, part of the strategy in warding people off in the first place was through carrying oneself with confidence, so Kurt's lips tilted in a convincing smirk.

"I think the appropriate answer is, 'come at me, bro,'" he replied, arching a brow.

Choking out a laugh, Puck rolled his eyes, more than just a little amused at that confident smirk on Hummel's face.

Anyway, he did what he was told, coming toward him head on, first, crowding in close and reaching out to clamp his hands around Kurt's arms. This wasn't boxing or martial frickin' arts they were practicing. This was self defense, and if some guy's gonna come at you, try and hurt you, and you're smaller than they are, they're not just gonna walk up and punch you in the face. They're gonna try and over power you, crowd you into a corner, drag you off somewhere you can't get to help.
